"that looks like a pit bull"

I know other people vented about this, but i never understood why some of you got mad about it until today. I was walking Max for the first time, and a group of bicycle riders road by. I said hello, and as one of them were passing, i heard him comment "that looks like a pit bull". I wanted to turn around and yell at him but they were well past. Idiot!

We've gotten that comment on several of our walks. I just ignore them if they're made in passing or kindly educate them if they're willing to chit chat.

I do not understand why people get so upset. Let's see my have been called Dobermans, Pitbulls, and a few others; its a mistake!

No, they were just mistaken. Maybe that is the only dog breed name they know with short hair.

I agree with Maniago. What reason is there to be upset? You know your dog is not a pit bull, your dog knows that he/she isn't a pit bull. Thats all that matters right?

My dogs have been called all sorts of things, but it doesn't matter. Calling the dog a pit-bull doesn't make it one.

i realy don't see what the big deal is they do look simaler it has'nt happend to be but i think i would just say no he's a boxer but i'd love to get a pit someday....

I alway say no he's a boxer but they do look similar, it doesn't offend me at all I like pitbulls there are many in my town and one of my good friends rescued one from the pound all that I have met are as sweet as can be. There is no such thing as bad dogs just bad owners.

It is amazing to me how people often make this mistake. In my household, we have a pit bull- Molly- and a boxer-Fibber McGee.
First, people think they are mother and son. When it tell them no, one's a pit bull and the other is a boxer,they swear the pit bull is a boxer and the boxer is a pit bull. I just laugh and correct them.

The only reason I would be discouraged is this disturbing trend of breed specific legislation targeting pitbulls and "pitbull type dogs". I don't want to see our dogs discrimnated against.:(

I have done the same thing, only the other way around! I was watching Animal Planet one night and there was a boxer in the background, when they did a closeup I saw the boxer was actualy a pit! :p

Personally I think both are breeds are beautiful and that they do resemble each other quite a bit in appearance. I too know several people who own both boxers and pits and they get along awesome together. Goes to show you that they can all be family breeds and lovable pets. I could see how it would be bothersome if someone mistook your dog for another breed, but just remember that it's only b/c they aren't educated in the breeds to be able to tell them apart. Just like most terriers look the same to me, I'd never be able to tell them apart nor do I really care to know the difference--maybe they feel the same way about our boxers and pits. Just let it go in one ear and back out the other with a smile on your face--who really cares what they think anyway?? I sure dont.
