Vets Good and Bad

maybe this is on this site somewhere already, but if not, maybe it would be a good idea to have an area where people could post their opinions about a particular vet that they have had experience with. That way when a boxer owner is looking for a vet that is good with boxers, they can check this listing and see if there are any vets in their area to go see (or stay away from).

I'm in Houston, Texas -highley recommend Dr. Young at Sunset Animal Clinic. The vet and staff are extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. The vet has his own boxers, and the clinic animal is a 13 year old female boxer that has had everything that she could have at some point in her life - but she is doing great now.

how about it? a new area to keep track of boxer loving vets, and vets to stay away from?

Are these some kind of anesthetics? My Lexi is just 7 months old and I am planning to take her to be spayed soon. Is this something that I have to worry about?

Along the same lines, does anyone know of a good very in the Dallas/Plano area that does well with Boxers? I would prefer someone who is more of a specialist, if anyone knows of a good vet.

Isoflurane and sevoflurane are inhalant anesthetics used during surgery. Dogs being put under for surgery are usually induced with an injectable anesthetic cocktail, sometimes including acepromazine, and then are put on an inhaled anesthetic via an endotracheal tube or mask.

It is a good idea to ask what kind of preanesthetic cocktail is given, just to be sure they aren't using ace to induce sleep. Before I knew how dangerous ace is for Boxers, Cookie was put under for a dental and tumor removal with a cocktail containing it. Throughout the procedures her heart rate was irregular, and she quit breathing several times. Luckily, the vet was very alert to Cookie's distress and she was awakened uneventfully, but it pays to check beforehand.

I wouldn't want anyone who treated animals that way to operate on my baby either. A good vet is real important just like good doctors are important to us. I wish you luck.
