Terrible vet visit!

Chloe has had an eye infection recently, so we took her in to the vet last night. As usual we waited 45 minutes from our appointment time just to see the vet. The hospital we go to has 4 or 5 vets, so you never know who you're going to see on any given day. Last night I think we got the worst one. She had to put some cream in Chloe's eyes to help the infection. Chloe didn't think that was a good idea and wasn't real cooperative. We had her gentle leader on so the vet decided she would grab it and pull up as hard as she could to choke Chloe. We could here Chloe grunting as she was struggling for air. Chloe finally sat down (only because she was being choked). This went on for several minutes while she put the cream in Chloe's eyes. My wife and I were furious at this point! We have a spay appointment coming up in a couple of weeks there. When I made the appointment I asked the techs if they use ACE. They told me no. I felt better. Last night I asked the vet the same question and she told me sometimes they do! What's going on? Nobody's on the same page here! I told her we did not want it used on Chloe under any circumstance because it's harmful to boxers. She kind of rolled her eyes and shook her head and said don't believe that stuff! We couldn't believe it. We immediately told her we wouldn't be back. We are searching for a new vet today! :D

Sounds to me like that vet didn't know what they were talking about. If that had happened to me I would have been very upset. I want the best for my baby girl and if they can't make up their minds about anything I would look for another vet as well. If that vet would have chocked Destiny I would have been going nuts telling her not to do that. I am very picky on how others handle her. She is my pride and joy.

I agree with you 100%. If anyone were to hurt my JBo, I would make sure that they would hear about it.

ChloeDog, Glad to hear you are going to find a different vet for your baby. You would have thought the Vet would've known better. smashicon

I would find another vet right away.
Then after call the old vet and tell them you won't seeing them anymore for the way they treated your pup. smashicon

got a new one already

We found a new vet already. My wife talked to them for a long time on the phone and asked tons of questions. They don't even use ACE at this one. They use ISOFLURANE or SEVOFLURANE. It's our choice. They said the SEVO is a little more expensive and they generally only use it on older dogs. At this office we will see the same doctor EVERY visit. At least now the vet can get to know Chloe some. The will do blood work before her spay to make sure she's OK. The other office didn't even mention that. Everyone I've talked to about this office says they're the best in town! They're the most expensive also, but when it comes to Chloe, money isn't an option! We feel much better already. I just hope nobody else has to go through what we did!:(

I've never seen a vet, and I've been to quite a few, handle an animal that way. If I did, that would be it, I'd say a word or two, grab my baby and be out the door. smashicon

Good luck with the new vet, sounds like a winner!

I'm so sorry you had to go through that!! Nobody should treat a dog in such a deplorable manner. As a vet student, I'm offended that a member of my profession would treat patient and client in such an uncaring manner. I'm glad you've found a new vet. I would call the old clinic and request a copy of Chloe's medical record, and let them know WHY you won't be coming back. Perhaps they didn't realize there was a problem with that particular doctor, and maybe you can keep it from happening to another poor animal.

I've found that vets who treat dogs that way (or are rough with any other animal) are afraid. They either - 1: don't like dogs, or 2: are afraid of them (getting bitten). I have met a few vets that made me wonder why in the world they choose that as a profession. One that doesn't like dogs does only horses. If she is over here and one of my dogs tries to get friendly, she gets a disgusted look on her face. Don't worry, she's only a back up vet for my horses if I have trouble getting my regular (great) vet. ;)
