Taping natural ears problem

I taped Shotze's ears over this past weekend and used electrical tape as suggested. I dont know if she is allergic to the adhesive or what but....she has bo-bo's on the inside of her ears now where the tape was and they are red. I tried using paper tape like in first aid kits but she had it off in 5 seconds. I really would like for her ears to stop flying and lay right because she doesnt look like a boxer right now. I also tried massage, but she thinks its a game of rub-n-bite. ANY help would be appreciated...she was sooooo cute when the tape came off for a bath after camping...they were laying perfect. (now they are flying again) Thanks!!!

The reason I'm taping is to make them have the right "look". Right now they are flying and not very attractive.( I think it makes Shotze look psycho hahaha) What I'm trying to achieve is the natural "flop". I didnt want them cropped, but I would like them flopped. I have read that if you dont get them trained while teething they will never lay right. So in answer to your question...its for appearance.

When Daisy was a pup, her ears seem to take on whatever shape she layed on them the night before. Now, they seem to be normal.

I am also taping Lael's natural ears. (If you look in my gallery, you can see why. :) ) I found the electrical tape did stay better, but it would hurt her when I took it off. I also don't think the electrical tape allows the skin to breath as well as a "first aid" tape, which is meant to be on the skin. The breeder tapes his Boxers' ears with first aid tape.

I switched to the first aid tape, and then would tape the ear more than once. It's hard to describe, but basically I would tape it with one strip of tape as normal. Then take a double or triple-length peice of tape and secure the tape, making sure that each "wrap" of the tape touches a bit of skin. I try to make it as secure as possible while covering the least amount of skin possible. It can be tricky. :D But it stays better than the electrical tape, and her ears don't seem to react to it. I hope I was able to describe that well enough.

BTW, I've got some good "after taping" pictures that I am going to post in the next week or so. You can see the results of my taping.

We get a great tape from our vet, I forget the name of it. It looks like an ACE Bandage, but it is sticky tape. It works great, it didn't even come off when Marco rubbed his head across the carpeted living room floor! We had to tape down his ear when he got stiches after being bit! It does take a lot of hair off when you take it off though, Marco had little bald spots on the under side of his neck for two weeks.

Vet wrap

bikerhoff, i think the type of tape you're talking about is called vet wrap. it's stretchy and sticky all around. very easy to put on and doesnt' leave a big mess when you take it off. i use that on my horses' legs whenever we have to apply any ointment on them. you can find them in any feed store and they're pretty cheap...come in all kinds of colors too.

I did taped Igor's ears too, with great success. He was ok with electrical tape, but my sister's american bulldog had a big reaction too. Maybe you can try first aid tape and secure it with electrical tape?
