Taping natural ears problem

I have tried and tried to tape Quinsi's ears. He ends up getting it off within 5mins. I thought maybe if I got better (stickier) tape it would stay longer.. NOPE! I think I'm just going to massage his ears whenever I get the chance. I massaged one for a couple of mins the other day and it stayed.. granted it went back to the floppy fly-away thing later on but I figure if I do it enough it'll eventually stay. I massaged them both for a couple minutes today and they stayed for quite awhile. So maybe whenever he's laying on me sleeping I'll massage away :)

The lady who imported Bodie to me had mentioned that there has been some widespread success with just massaging the ears. However, it completely depends on the make up of cartilage in the dogs ears, making each dog an individual case. But, if you want massaging alone to work, you need to do it often. The ears will alwyas stay for a while, the test is do they stay after he/she has had a change in facial expression. I would say massage them as much as possible...including when they are staying. This will only reinforce the fold in the ear. Always massage the ears after your boxer wakes up, as this will help with any weird ears folds caused by the way the dog was sleeping. It can be done, it just takes time and patience. hope it works....

Well I found out tonight it's all in the way HE is holding them! When I walked through the door after work, there was Quinsi, holding his little ears forward and bent the right way.. as soon as I said HI and started coming towards him, he flipped them back the 'ol fly-away style! Little turd! lol

I noticed the same thing. Even before all the taping & massaging, I noticed a difference if Lael's attention is strongly focused forward. Once she gets all happy & wiggly, she puts her ears back like in this picture.

 I taped up her ears again this morning before leaving for work. She doesn't seem to even notice the tape anymore.

Shotze's Mom

I just want to thank you all SO much for all the helpful info you have given me. After Shotzes bath this morning I will be trying again. She has got to the point of not even wanting her ears touched. It seems like all I do is massage them lately. I guess she is getting tired of it. I dunno. She thinks everything is a game of "Bite at Mom". I HAVE to get her out of this somehow. lol
Once again, thanks so much for the help. You guys are GREAT!!
