I talk to my baby Boxer Ollie like she is a human. I have always done this with other breeds of dogs, but with her it's like she knows what I am saying! Her facial expressions are out of this world! Does anybody else feel this way?
P.S. I am new to this site and ABSOLUTELY love it! Boxer owners are the most loyal dog owners!

Ive always talked to Bandi.
I believe they know what we are saying to them.
They are VERY smart.
Besides if they didnt understand why do I have to spell out some things to my wife to keep Bandi fron going Bonkers LOLOL
By the way welcome to the boards you will learn alot of stuff here and Meet some of the greatest people in the world!

Gidget is my "baby girl" and that's exactly what I tell her everyday. I talk to her just like I talk to anyone else. I grew up with animals in the house and they were always treated like part of the family, including talking to them. Gidget loves being talked to and she listens to every word(I know she understands everything I say:D ) It's great therapy for me too if I'm upset or just need to mutter incoherently.:D

Thanks for the replies. I understand the spelling things out thing. There are so many things that Ollie understands and so when I am talking to my boyfriend I have to spell things out so I don't get Ollie too excited. :p

sure, i talk to Roscoe ALL the time! my husband is in the navy and is gone pretty often, and i'd go crazy without someone here to listen to me! he always knows whats up and always knows when i'm feeling lonely and comes to sit by my side. he gets so upset when i'm talking on the phone, i guess he doesn't understand why i'd talk into some plastic thingy instead of to him!

We talk to Jake all the time. He's so smart he's even learned what words mean when I spell them out. He knows what I'm talking about when I spell "out" or "cookies" (doggy treats). Quite often he'll talk back with his woo wooing (his dog talk).

Welcome to the board. Warning though, you may become addicted.

We ALWAYS talk to our boys. Even our daughter does too. We too, have to spell certain things, such as "cookie" or "run" because their radar ears pick things up quick. It's that selective listening thing.

Sometimes they talk to us too. They will start to woo-woo and we'll sing back and then they'll start talking - it's a different sound than a woo-woo. They move their jaw.

We love it and wouldn't want it any other way.

I talk to Saffy all the time. They really do know what you're saying. Hey bop109- do you ever take Ollie to the dog park on Riverside? We go pretty often and we love to see other boxers there. They're the only dogs that play like they do.

I have always talked to Boomer and he understands what I say. We have to spell certain words out like "ride, car, bisquit, out, grandma.and few more. And sometimes he will talk back with his Woo,Woo song. Gotta love um............

I talk to my boys all the time too. My boyfriend thinks I'm a little crazy when I start telling him what they are saying back to me! But hey sometimes I think they're smarter than him!
