Butler inhales his food, also. And, gets semi-choked at least once a week. He has scared me pretty badly before. Here's something that you can try; it works, but I don't know how or why. Lifting their back legs off the floor will most times dislodge whatever they're choking on. Butler has tried to walk before on his front legs when I do this, and I think somehow by him doing that the process works even faster. Whatever he's choked on usually comes right out. I panic when he gets choked, so my husband told me about this in case Butler happened to get choked when he was out. I've seen this work more than once.

Here is a bowl they make for doggies who eat fast. I was thinking about getting one for Gus. I don't know if they work or not, but I might try one. He inhales his food, and Izzy eats sooooooooo slow. She takes one piece out at a time, sometimes taking it upstairs and then coming back. Sometimes, she just leaves her food and doesn't want it. So, when I got Gus, I was not use to the inhaling your food thing! If anyone has tried this bowl, let me know.

I guess a rock would work kind of the same way. I could see Gus taking a tennis ball out and moving it, then inhaling his food.
