Lokie cant swim my sons GF jumped off the back of the boat Lokie thought she was in trouble and went in after her. We had to go in after him he was sinking and I was screaming. We got him back in the boat and went to petco to get a life vest I also put my vest on him to see which one worked bets.
Lokie loves the water and we have to hold him especially now he went in the hard way.
When we go out we started out slow with just me and his daddy holding him so he feels safe and working with him he is starting to swim a little. I think he will be ok with some training and always a jacket.
The boxers we know love to get in the water but they only go up to the neck area. The mechanic at the marina we go to has a little white female she doesn't swim but plays in the shallow water alot.
I would suggest taking everything slow and keeping a close eye on your baby.

We took Bama swimming for the first time this past weekend at a local pool that was hosting doggy pool day. When we got there, Bama was so excited that he jumped right in! But then he didn't come up to the surface right away, which scared the life out of me. He finally came up and started flailing around, and DH had to jump in and grab him. He did NOT want to get back in the pool after that! DH dragged him in a number of times and Bama tried as hard as he could to swim. But just like someone else posted, Bama was almost vertical in the water, slapping with his arms and just trying to keep his head above water.
I guess he'll be sticking to wading in the bathtub from now on! (unless we find him a good life vest).

He looked to me like he was having fun :) I thought I saw him in the water often doing well. I hope he grows to love the water as he gets older.

I've noticed, that finding a right way to swim, may be more difficult to boxers than the other dogs. I don't know, but all my boxers have swimmed at first the same way, quite funny way, I can't discribe it well.

Few pictures (again) of that way:

But when they learn how to swim, they are excellent swimmers. And they really enjoy that. Pippis (that black brindle in pictures) sometimes dives too and she is amazing swimmer now, although at first I thought, that she never gonna learn how to swim the right way :D

Sox doesn't mind it

Sox can swim in short bursts. She gets tired real easyily. My wife and I were thinking that maybe it has to do with the amount of muscle the boxers have on them naturally that makes it harder for them to swim.

Delilah swims every time I take her to the dog park with the pond. It isn't very deep so she mostly wades but once I called her back to me from the opposite side of the pond and instead of walking around it she swam across. In the middle it was over her head!!! You should've seen the look on her face when she couldn't touch bottom!! She made it across without my having to rescue her, though.

I took her to the beach Sunday for the first time and she bounded across the sand (and over some people's towels!!!) and headed right for the water. It was even rough that day and there was an undertow. Again, she didn't go out over her head but was having a blast diving in and out of the waves and doing a Boxer Burn along the shore. She had everyone on the beach cracking up with her hysterical antics!!!!

swimming

I think a lot of it depends on the individual dog. My 5 year old loves water, but doesn't want to go past touching the bottom. Her 2 1/2 year old daughter goes on vacation to Mexico with her owners and is out in the ocean swimming to the snorkelers!

I have a picture of Charlie swimming on his website...he accidently decided to go swimming when he thought he could walk on water at my DH's grandma's house. He did fine and enjoyed the pool. We weren't prepared to have him jump in so we took him out & wouldn't let him in again, but I imagine he would have if he was really given the opportunity. Just remember it is so important that they know where the stairs are...he swam straight across to my DH so he was able to pull him out, but if he wasn't here Charlie would have had a hard time getting out of the pool & could have drowned. There are a lot of toys that advertise that they float, that would probably make the experience fun :)

Buy a fido vest

Buy a fido doggie vest for the first few times. We used it with Drake and he then LOVED the pool. In fact, he would take a swim every time he went out. We couldn't keep him out of the pool if we wanted to! Now that we have covered it, he just jumps on the safety cover trying to get to the water!
