Minx and Blaze love the water but do not swim. They love to lay in the ocean and have the waves roll up on them and they love to run and play in it. The first time we took Blaze to the ocean was a few weeks ago, he went running off the sand into the water, there was quite a drop and he went under. All I saw was this little nubby tail sticking up out of the water. He looked like a duck diving for fish! The look on his face when he came up was priceless!

Ozzy loves the water but haven't had the chance to take him to a beach yet. I have a pool (inground) but wouldn't let him in because of all the chemicals. We have stairs so he could get out.

Duchess Swam Today!

Of course, she didn't like it, but she did swim. I walked out into the water with her (after my pine needle surfing incident--different thread) on her leash. When she got to where she couldn't touch, she'd promptly turn around and head for shore. She did this with me several times. That is, until she realized that she could stand on her hind legs and wrap her front legs around me! smashicon

I think she'll start liking it more if we go back again and again. :)

Mickey ALWAYS wears his lifejacket on the boat! I have had nightmares about him falling overboard and us not being able to find him! Hey, I wouldn't let one of my grandkids on my boat without a jacket, my little furbaby deserves no less! :p Who knows if the baby would be able to swim after being thrown from the boat!

It took Scooter a couple of tries to get the hang of swimming. He ONLY goes in if I go in or my husband goes in which I am happy about but he swims towards us. I don't like him swimming towards me with his claws because he gets my stomach and OUCH :o does that hurt!!

hi, I am new to this board. In fact I just signed up today. This has to be the best site I ever found on boxers. I am so excited to have found it :D Now to get to your question on swimming. I live right on the Susquahanna river and found that my boxer Harley really loves the water but is afraid to go swimming because his rear end sinks to the bottom and he just splashes like crazy but doesnt go anywhere. This makes him feel left out because my parents have a golden retriever that is his best friend and he can't go swimming with her. Then I remembered seeing dog life preservers. They look like small vests and they keep him floating level so that he can swim normal. Now the two of them spend hours just swimming and laying in the river. I hope this will be useful information. cool2icon

lifejacket

Wendy,

My pup also must wear a lifejacket when he is on the boat. He is a good swimmer and gets a lot of practice by fetching sticks from the shore, but like you, I couldn't live with myself if he jumped or got knocked off the boat and I couldn't get to him. So the rule is lifejacket always on while on the boat, and lifejacket on if mommy can't touch the bottom. I remember my parents being strict about this rule when I was a kid and I hated it, but now that I have a "kid" of my own I totally understand!
