Well, Camerson didn't have PDA; she has Subaortic Stenosis. Her diagnosis is described as "severe" and her LVOTV max.=4.5 to 5.0 M/sec. Does anyone know what that means? She's on atenolol and given a 5-8 year life span "with aggressive medical treatment and absolutely the least amount of exertion possible. However, Camerson will die before 2-3 years of age if she is permitted to exercise and get excited." She had her echo done and was diagnosed at the University of Georgia Vet School Feb 8. She's doing fine on her treatment, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience/knowledge with such a severe case and how was/is the outcome of their baby? And...any advice on helping her gain weight? She's 7 1/2 months old and weights about 35 lbs. I used to give her eukenuba (?) large breed puppy dry and wet mix, but she just didn't eat much. I just started this week feeding her homemade chicken and rice and she's eating the heck out of that and I think gaining weight. What's your thoughts on that as well. Thank you all so much!! Our first boxer, Tyler, was diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis at around a year to a year and a half old. I'm not sure what the seriousness level was or the details now but he lived to just over 11 years old. Totally normal activity level. He always had the murmur that new vets (as we moved) would hear and comment on. But he did fine, I hope it works out the same way for you.

here are some links with some information that might be helpful to you. I know that there are several BW members whose boxers have SAS, so hopefully they will have some good information for you as well. If you do a search in the health forum as well, you will find lots of information. My Gracie was suspected of having mild AS a couple months ago when my vet found a murmur and we had plans to go to UC Davis vet school for further testing, but thankfully, her murmur resolved itself and she was okay. I am so sorry to hear about your baby, and hope you find the information and answers to help you.

The links Jill listed should shine some light on the diagnosis. As for food,I would not put her back on Eukanuba....there are so many better quality foods available,or you can continue the home cooking or choose the BARF/RAW diet. The feeding forum has a ton of info. Hugs
