congratulations on the new addition!!
I know the feeling! My husband and I had a combined 4 skin boys when we got married. They are now 13,10,9,and9. My husband got Buster for me when he was trying to convince me to have a baby, I just knew we'd wined up with another boy!! LOL Can you imagine being that out numbered?! It took a while to get me to even consider having a baby! But we now have a beautiful baby girl who is 14 mo. The fur babies weren't too sure what to think of her when we brought her home, but it didn't take long before Buster was her guardian, she'd be asleep in her bassinett and he would lay next to it. Buster is completely deaf but knows hand signals. So how he knew when she woke up is beyond me. If I was in doing dishes he would come in and push on me till I came to see what he wanted, and there she would be just looking around at the sights. To this day he is very protective of her and lets her climb all over him, pull on his ears, stick her fingers in his mouth/nose wherever she pleases! He even lays on the floor next to her if she falls asleep after a hard day of play. Did I mention he is 82lbs. haha We just got Riddick, another white boxer, a little over a week ago. He's only about a year old and very full of energy! He was going to be euthenized at the local pound when the Boxer Bunch of Hutch called to see if we would take him, and after going and looking at his ugly mug I couldn't leave him there to die. I didn't know how he would be with the baby since she's so used to loving all over Buster and I figured she'd do the same to him. He is getting more used to her every day but still has his moments where he doesn't want a baby climbing on him. So he just gets up and finds somewhere else to lay. Just yesterday I took the dogs and the baby across the street where there is a ball feild that is fenced in and one of the neighbors' dogs (pit bull) tried to get inside the fence, growling and barking very viciously, Riddick wasn't about to have any of that, he stood his ground growling and barking right back. The neighbor finally had to come and pick his dog up and take it back home! If I had any doubts about Riddick being protective they are deffinitely gone!! I wish you guys luck with the new baby!! And I completely agree with Dora and the blanket, that's what we did and it worked too. They even know they can't go in her bedroom, so they all lay outside her door and watch after her! LOL
