I am so glad I read this post - I came here specifically to get reassurance about boxers and babies. We have a 2 year old boxer Simon who we adore - he is the most lovable little guy but he is very, very spoiled and clearly the baby of the house. My husband and I are expecting twins within the next 2-3 weeks and I have had some concerns but reading this thread really helped. Simon has been much more gentle with me through the pregnancy and we have introduced him to the nursery and let him sniff everything - we talk about the babies coming all the time to him. I am confident that all of our babies will get along well. :) Thanks for such a great thread.

Dont worry about the sock thing. IMO all dogs pinch socks, Dont they?
When Bust was a pup he took my eternity ring off my finger, and I didnt even feel it come off. When I realised he had it, he hid it under his tongue!
So your sock story made me laugh.
By the way Buster met his 'skin' cousin age 4 months. He ran in sniffed all over her push chair and changing bag, sniffed and snuffled her feet and Im sure he wanted to take the socks off her little feet, then lay down. I was a little worried as my 2 kids are 4 and nearly 6 . So although Buster knows all about little people he has no experience of babies. But he was cool!

Shame on the people who think you should get rid of your dog ecause you're having a baby! How rude! We are just waiting for our puppy to come home - and one of the reasons that we chose a Boxer - is becuase they're great with children! We don't have any babies yet one day...

Pink Puppy, You have got it right... I have a 4 month old skin baby and a 1 1/2 yr old female fawn princess baby girl. It has brought tears to our eyes (me and my hubby) seeing the 2 of them develop a relationship. Our little boy is covered in boxer smooches ALL the time. We love it. Out little boy grabs Nestle by the face and pulles her close to him. It is the sweetest thing we have ever seen. I have said it a million times... boxers and babies are a perfect pair.

Hi Guys,

i was looking through these threads as i am visiting my future in laws in a week or so. My g/fs sister has a baby of about 8 months and I am pretty worried what the situation will be like. She is not very fond of dogs anyway, but dogs seem to like her. Funny they always go towards the one person that doesn't want to pet them. But, these messages have made the situation seem a little easier for me. I just hope my pup, will act as he should around the baby.

I have a two year old boxer lady,an 8 year old son and atwo year old daughter. They all get along great!! To tell the truth my two year old hugs kisses and basicly falls all over Lady. Lady eats up the attention i have never seen her so much as get anoid with my daughter! God knows that Lady has had more then enough reasons to have gotten mad at Ciara (my daughter).

I have a very similar situation. I'm not the one pregnant (yet;)), but a lady that I work with just had a nephew born a few weeks ago, and they have an English Bulldog. The dog has been around all kinds of other kids (at least 5 kids) since they've had her, and no kid aggression or anything. Well, this coworker of mine actually said if she were the husband, she would poison the dog (he doesn't want it around, the wife does)!! I lost so much respect for her with that one sentence. I thought she was an animal person. Boy, was I wrong! I guess she could tell what I thought about it by the look on my face, b/c then she says "or atleast start putting it outside all the time". Yeah, that's better! Take a poor dog who's been inside for her whole life (at least 6 years) and throw her outside. I guess I was in shock b/c I couldn't even say much for a minute. But I did compose myself and told her that if I had another baby, Boomer would definitely be his big brother. She just said, Oh, I would be so worried about my baby! GRRRRR!!!! Any way, sometimes there is no getting through to the thick-headed!

Don't worry about your Boxer with your new baby

My Mom and Dad bought a 6 week old Boxer when My Mom found out she was pregnant with me. That dog became my first best friend, guardian and protector, and I have remembered her fondly all of my life. I could fall on her as a toddler, and would knock the air out of her, but she was SO tolerant, and never minded my childish prodding and exploring of her ears, nose, mouth, etc. Now, we have a young boxer, he is great with all our 10 grandchildren, the youngest is just a year old now, and the younger the kids are the more gentle the dog is with them. Victor would gladly go home with any of them, he pouts after the kids leave for awhile, but when they come to spend the night, he gets up early and goes back to bed with them, they all sleep much later then I do, and Victor has his own bed next to mine, but he likes to crawl into bed with the kids. It seems like they just are naturals with kids, the more the merrier! Victor is in 7th heaven when all the kids are here at once!

I have an 11 yr old, a 5 yr old and a 20 month old (all boys) and 2 dogs and a cat. All my boys are taught to be respectful of our other family members fur or not! Likewise every boxer I have ever had has been nothing short of precious with my children. I would not trade one moment of it for anything. As long as you train & supervise well all should be fine!

Scrapper is very intuitive about small children. He stands absolutely still, or sits down and lets them pat all over him, when we are out walking and someone wants to "pet the doggie!" One time, we were walking past a house, and a little boy, about one and a half, or two, came running down the driveway, at full speed, yelling, "doggie, doggie, doggie!!" at the top of his lungs, waving his arms in the air. Scrapper just stood there and let him "pat" (more like pound) him all over his side, and then, after a bit, reached out delicately with his huge pink tongue and gave the little boy a slurpy Boxer kiss on the cheek. The kid dissolved in giggles and we continued on our way... :)
