Don't let those commets get to you... it's such a shame people think they need to boot the dogs when the babies come.
My parents were afraid their boxer Rocky would be jealous of my brother when he was born but it turned out they were wrong, Rocky would sleep under the crib and watch out for him. I still hear great stories of Rocky to this day. :)
I plan on having a dog or two or three before I have any skin kids. ;)
I wouldn't think of booting them. I grew up around dogs and it was so much fun, I have many fond memories playing in the backyard with my Doberman when I was just 2 years old.

I have got comments like that also, and it makes me so mad. Some people are just not dog people and think dogs are disposable and when they get a dog they don’t think it’s a commitment for the life of the dog. I am not pregnant or even trying yet, but hope to in the next year or two. When we added a second boxer to our home 10 months ago my brother in-law made a similar comment about what will I do with the dogs when we start a family, I was like what do you mean, what will I do with the dogs, I won’t do anything with the dogs when we start a family – makes me so mad. I am sure it may be challenging finding time for everyone but I am determined I will make it work and the dogs will get plenty of exercise and attention, and will be as important to me then as they are now.

I take surrender calls all the time for the rescue group that I volunteer for and so many of them are from people expecting their first child and now they are looking to get rid of the dog!! And they are so nonchalant about it like it shouldn’t be any other way smashicon

We just did the opposite!!!!

My baby girl turned 1 in december and we decided that since me and my wife both grew up with a dog it was time to get one.

Since becaused we have a kid now, we won't be on the go so much, we'll actually have more tikme at home and it'll give us the opportunity to be able to own a dog and take proper care of it. When growing up, my boxer was my very best friend in the world and I would love my kids to share into such a wonderfull relationship.

And besides, having a good dog means that you, as a parent, don't always have to be the only source of entertainment in the house for your kids. And lets face it, Boxers and Kids seemed to have been created to coexist...

Bottom Line Kelli.....it is YOUR baby, YOUR Dog, YOUR house...YOUR life!! You hold your head up and do what you know is right for your family. Ignore silly people who try to run your life for you. Best Wishes on the new baby. I'm sure Little Landon will be a very lucky little guy with his very own boxer buddy to grow up with. I think it is soooo cool that your due date is Chester's birthday...it's a sign from above Girl!! lovicon djk

I don't know what all the fuss is about. People think the first newborn is going to be hard on the new mom. Babies are the easiest to take care of.
I run a day care and at one time had 2 boxers. Lacey doens't hang out with the kids....although she would like to. :) She greets them all in the morning and then I will let her visit with them in the afternoon for a bit. With me right in sight...of course. I have a couple of children that would like to ride Lacey. They also like to grab at her nubbin. She just loves the kids but, I can tell when enough is enough. Just have to use some common sense. :)
I'm sure everything will work out just fine.
Just ignore those opinionated people.....I know quite a few of those myself.

What can be better for a newborn than a Boxer BuddyDraco (now at the Bridge) and my daughter Royina
Draco was a Rescued dog and he did so good with my daughter. I am sorry that he is no longer here to see her growing up :)
Now I have two more dogs, Argos & Theia, and I am expecting my second child. I am sure that my two fur kids will do just fine with the new baby

Oh Juno....I had never seen that picture...girl, I'm just a boo-hooing! Absolutley precious. He was the best big brother anyone could ask for wasn't he? Does RJ remember him? Gosh I hope so, I hope she wasn't too little. I am so glad you have A & T to step up and take over for the new baby. lovicon

About the only thing i have seen about boxers and babies is that when my neice and nephew (2 & 3) play with my katie, she tends to forget that she is 80 lbs and thinks she is only 5 lbs. i just have to tell her to settle and she calms down. i think it is important to always observe children when they are playing regardless if they are fur or skin. No matter what anyone says though, what YOU FEEL is right is the right thing to do!

Congrats and good luck!

Dido everything! I'm having another baby in about 6 weeks, have a 23month old, and 2 puppies (6mo and 9weeks) YEAH, im crazy! My mom was also "concerned" about how i was going to handle 4 babies...but it will work out. Its really nobody's business but yours. Have fun with them and take a lot of pictures of them growing up together!!

Good luck

I never understood exactly why when you have a baby you’re supposed to get rid of your pets? It’s like when people give away their dogs when they’re moving… what does one have to do with the other??
My friend and I joke about the type of people that raise “bubble children”, kids that can’t leave the house without helmets, allergy medicine and asthma puffers… they probably came from parents who gave away their pets when they were born.
