Stuck in his crate...I'm still crying

My husband just called & said that when he got home today he found Maxx in an awful situation. He put Maxx in his crate for a few hours while he stepped out, and when he came home, Maxx had obviously gone hysterical. We have people working in our house doing remodeling now, and the only time Maxx is usually alone is while NO ONE is home. He is normally is only crated for bed time while we are home, so hearing people & not being able to play with them must have gotten the best of him. Somehow he managed to jump around in the crate hard enough to get it to come apart from the bottom. He created a hole just large enough to fit his head & upper body through, and when my husband returned home, Maxx had his body 3/4 of the way out of the crate, and his legs were pinned in. He was really lethargic, and fell right asleep in Daddy's arms. He seems to be doing better now, running and playing with the kids. I'm still at work, so I haven't seen him yet, but we are taking him to the vet tomorrow anyway. Just the thought of my baby getting stuck like that hurts soooo bad! I have been crying every since he called. I can't imagine ever putting him back in the crate again since this happened. He's almost 12 weeks, and I am sure this has absolutely traumatized him. He's not fully house trained, but I know one thing for certain, I'd rather clean poo from the bedroom floors for eternity than to have to put him back in there.

I'm so sorry...poor baby. Sounds like he's feeling better already. I hope everything goes well at the vet tomorrow.

Poor baby! I'm SO glad to hear he's OK. I'm sure you can't wait to get home and give him some hugs! Give him some for Tess and me too!

On another note, you might consider a different kind of crate before you decide to stop crating altogether. So many more dangerous things can happen to them when not confined than if they are confined in something that they really can't get out of. Try a plastic covered wire crate. I don't want to meet the dog that can bust his way out of Tess' crate.

Brit once broke out of her crate. She must have pushed and bounced around enough to loosen the screws/bolts and when we returned home she was sitting in the kitchen with garbage strewn everywhere. The bread and butter was gone and any treats on the counter were eaten. What kind of work she must have went through to get out of there. I felt horrible too and worried she would never get in the crate again. She did. I eased my mind soon after by leaving a camcorder running during the day while I was gone. I had 8 hours of her sighing, the phone ringing, the radio playing and her shifting about every hour or so. No straining to get out. So, her time of getting out the kennel must have been a freak occurance. She thought of her kennel as a haven.
I am hoping your little pup will return to the kennel with no problems and it was just one of those things....

Awww! That poor baby, and Mommy and Daddy for that matter! I would hesitate to ever put him back in there again myself. You would hate for him to really injure himself, but who knows, he may go back in and have no problems at all. Glad to hear he's ok.

Glad to hear it was not much worse although I dont suppose you think he's been very lucky.

Ohhh, that broke my heart... To think of the little angel and what must have been going through his little head. I'm so glad that he's okay. I'm sure after a few days he'll forget all about his little escape plan that went awry. Give him a big kiss from me!

:( Poor little Maxx, So sorry this happened to him. He must have been horrified. My thoughts are that he will go back to his crate just fine. He is safest in it, really, while you are gone or sleeping, (unless he decides to try to get out) they can really get into trouble or hurt if unsupervised. Also, it's been mentioned on the site several times already, but we always take Sophie's collar off when she is crated. The buckles have been known to get caught in the crate. Just try to fix his crate so that can't happen again and he will probably be fine. Give him a big hug from Patty and Sophie
