We had to help our pup to the birdge in early November. I only yesterday was finally able to join boxerworld but I have been a fan of the site for some time. Strega was a bit over 8 years old. She was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma when she was 4. The cancer specialist gave her 9 months to live at the time. She held on for 4 more years. In that time we watched her closely along with our Vet for any signs of distress. Lymphatic swelling at her collar bone area was almost the sive of golf balls at one time, then very suddenly subsided. Our vet and his staff truly felt she was a miracle dog. Then the cancer finally started in on her internals. She developed internal bleeding into her bladder. For a time it was negligable, merely coloring her urine a bit. Later it began to really affect her. In the last week it was beginning to clot and make it difficult to unrinate and she was becoming very anemic and tired from bloodloss.

On November 3rd I could tell she was ready to go. We consulted our Vet and said goodbye while I held her on Nov 4th. It was the worst day of my 38 years on this planet.

Strega was my first dog and first Boxer. I will miss her always. I hope she is in a place (to paraphrase Neal Stephenson) where steaks grow on trees and frisbees fly through the air for no reason other than to chase them over rolling fields.

I can honesty say that helping my Magic to escape her hurting body was also the hardest and worst day of my years on this planet. I joined BW 3 or 4 days after I lost Magic. Sharing my story about Magic really helped me because I did not feel so alone with my pain. I had plenty of friends and family to talk to but know one really understood the bond that Magic and I shared. On Boxer World we all understand the special bond. My thoughts are with you and welcome to BW. Magic, I am hoping you gave Strega lots of Boxer Loves when she joined you at Rainbow Bridge.

Very Sorry

I am very sorry to hear about your beautiful Strega. I lost my boy to Alimentary lymphoma in July, just 5 short weeks after diagnosis. He was 5 1/2 and went from 75 pounds to 53 in that short time. I too had to help my baby to the bridge .Your baby was a miracle, I have never heard of any dog being sick with this disease living so long after diagnosis, she was truly a very special girl and obviously had a will equal to none. There are no words that will ease the pain that you are experiencing, but she must have had tremendous love and loved very much to have fought so valiently, that alone says more than anything anyone can ever express to you. I am so sorry for your loss, know that you are in our thoughts and prayers, godspeed beautiful and courageous Strega, Run free.

I'm so sorry you had to experience the loss of Strega, but without that you would never have had the chance to experience all the love, hugs and kisses that she had to offer. Strega is in a better place now, no longer hurting pulling steaks off of the trees (yeah) and burning around with all our babies at the bridge. You showed Strega the last, greatest act of kindness and love you could. Take care and know that you did what was right and what was best for her.

So sorry

I am so sorry for your loss, what a lucky girl Strega was, to have so much love. I understand.
I too joined Boxerworld shortly after losing my baby, Daysha last month. She was only 4, almost 5 years old and my first dog too. I loved her so much, I know that she could understand me even with no spoken words, and I could understand her too.
I spent 3 days searching for glimpse of a pain-free moment that would talk me out of my decision to let her go, but none came. I know the bond you experienced, and know that if she could have, your girl would have thanked you. I think my Daysha did, she licked my hands and face even in the very moment, she sighed a Boxer sigh and watched my eyes the whole time.

You are in the best place you could be, with all of us who have been in your shoes and know your pain. BW helped me through the hardest days of my life, I was numb, but spending time here helped me remember why I love my girl as much as I do and I have been able to step forward in my time with my other Boxer, Drake.

I love this quote, someone sent it to me when I lost my Daysha:
"Don't be sad that it's over, be glad that it happened."-unknown

Godspeed Strega. Daysha, take care of Strega, girl.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Strega must have been one very special boxer girl, defying the odds and adding 4 extra years to her life. It was a life well lived and one you will cherish forever in your heart.

I am so sorry for you loss but, I have no doubt that Strega is grabbing one of those steaks right now. I hope you feel better soon and maybe in time open your heart to another boxer. Take care.
