I'm so sorry Storm has to go through this, and you too. Sherlock had lost one of his eyes also and when the specialist and I talked about removing it he told me I could have a "fake" eye inserted. Is this an option for Storm, or would you even consider it? Good luck and Storm get well quickly.

Well, I just wanted to let you know, as I have already been through this with one of our rescues.... She had cancer with a huge growth coming out of her eye that must have been there for a long time before she came to us.... So when we got her we needed to treat her immediately..... So she had her eye removed and is doing super!!!! She seems so much happier now, she feels so much better. She will occasionally bump into things, but thats usually just long enough for her to adjust to seeing that way and getting a feel for everything. Your baby is gonna do just fine, and come out of it like a Champ!! Your gonna need lots of extra special treats, then I'm sure she will forget all about her surgery

Thank you to everyone who has posted. It really helps me try and deal with this. Today is the day of surgery and I spent most of the night crying and now have to go to work (its 6.20am here) so BF is taking her in at 8am and my vet said he knows how much I stress so will ring me and give me regular updates. I'm not concerned with how she will look - she will always be the most beautiful dog in the world to me. I am just stressed about her having to have surgery and the pain that will come with it.
Just to answer some questions...
She has seen numerious people (vets & specialists) and because they couldn't see behind her eye the original problem can't be fixed - this problem is causing the inflamation & bleeding. If we didn't get the eye removed then she would always have pain/discomfort and be on drugs for the rest of her life as the original cause is unknown. As she is only 2 and is used to life with one eye anyway (as the one being removed has no vision) it is the best thing for her.
The fake eye idea has been thrown around but isn't really important to us. I imagine it is expensive and I don't mind having a one eyed dog as long as she is pain free and her normal happy, loving self!
