My 3 year old almost died 5 minutes ago!!!!!
OH MY GOD!!!
I am in the other room cleaning as usual....and my kids...aged 7..5 and 3 are all playing and watching tv...all of a sudden i hear MOM she is choking
I hear MIa gagging and making attempts to breath but cannot....my 7 year old says...she put a MARBLE in her mouth!!!i stick my finger down her throat..( i dont know what else to do at this point...i dont know cpr...i wish i did) anyways i feel the marble right down her throat ...halfway to her windpipe...so i pulled my finger back so i would not push the ball further and made Mia puke...she did and out came the ball...i am still in tears...my baby could have died!!!she has been through so much( she was born deaf and had surg at 1 ...she got a cochlear implant...she has come so far in 2 years since then) and now we could have lost her....why do i feel to blame for this??
She has NEVER put toys in her mouth even as a baby....I screamed at her not to EVER put toys in her mouth again...and hugged her while doing it.

OMG !!!! I'm so glad she is ok !!! I don't think you should blame yourself, though. Things can happen so quickly-even when keeping a close watch. I think I'd be stashing away the marbles so the little ones can't do that again. Just take a deep breath and give them all a great big hug.
Take care.

I'm really glad everything is ok and that Mia is fine. I can only imagine how terrifying that must have been.

I agree with Poohsmom, I wouldn't blame yourself. Kids are always sticking things in their mouths. I know I stuck some really nasty stuff in my mouth as a child. I'm just glad you were there and that having her vomit caused the marble to come out.

marbles are out

YUP...all the marbles are gone....Even thought she is 3 her comprehension is of a 2 year old so i cannot make things difficult for her to understand....I just told her TOYS are NOT for eating ...PIZZA...PASTA...CAKE is for the mouth not TOYS!!!!
She is sleeping now....but its just so hrd to get this out of my mind that i could have LOST my baby!!!
Thank you for the kind words....tomorrow is another day and i hope to put this incident behind me.
I will say an extra prayer tomorrow at church and thank God for not taking her away from me!!!

I am so glad Mia is ok!! Please don't blame yourself...this happens. Kids are forever putting things in their mouths that they shouldn't. ! Even if you did know CPR, it wouldn't have helped at the time...you need to learn the hymelic maneuver. ;) My daughter swallowed a penny when she was 3...in the back seat of the car!! I heard her gagging and turned to see why...she was blue!! DH pulled the car over in the middle of the parking lot...pulled her out of her carseat and began the hymelic on her. Out pops a penny and her color almost immediately turned normal. I couldn't believe the morons in the other cars beeping their horns like crazy and yelling at us to get out of the way!! Like we just decided to pull over and start pumping my daughters stomach for the heck of it...geesh!
I totally understand how you feel right now...but it's ok! Mia is fine now...it is a lesson learned. Give your babies a big ole hug and yes...thank God tomorrow in church for giving you more time with her! :) Take care..((HUGS))!

OH my gosh! I am so glad she is okay.
I would definitely sign up for a child/infant cpr class as soon as possible. You actually did the right thing in putting your finger down there.
Most red cross places offer cpr and first aid classes as do the local YMCA I believe. I am in the military, and have never had to use my training, but know that one day I may be very greatful that I have it and you will too.

I really had no clue what to do..mothers intuition i guess..
I told my hubbie about it when he called from work and i guess he was shocked and just said..."i guess we should supervise her more!!"
NOW i really felt to blme so i hung up not feeling too great.
He called me again 3 hours later and said he was so proud of me and he doesnt know what he would have done if it was him....he went on to say that i am an amazing mom....here we go...more tears!!!
Mia just got up asking for chocolate milk so i got Nina out of the crate and we both went up to keep her company and to smother her with kisses.
I tell you if Nina was't here i sure would be in tears now...but she is on her back rolling around like the clown that she is....its so hard to feel sad...
Once again Nina comes to the rescue of my feelings...my little hero!!

It's amazing what we do when we are faced with something we think we couldn't handle. My Robbie was choking on a piece of bacon a while ago and I just jumped right in there and hung him over the garbage can and squeeeeeezed his belly till that sucker came out. Fell apart afterward. I'm glad Mia is ok.

stop blaming yourself!!! these things happen all the time you can't keep your eyes on a child 24/7 and the minute you turn away, you can bet they'll be in at something they shouldn't!!!!

I would be completely freaked out as well, but you did the right thing and took charge of the situation. Just take a deep breath and don't blame yourself - it's not your fault!! Kids don't have a clue at that age as to what they're supposed to put in their own mouths/ears/noses much less make the connection that a marble is not a treat for Mia.

Hmmm...wonder if there are any books for young children that could illustrate things like 'be nice to the puppy/dog' and 'what NOT to put in puppy's/dog's mouths' so that parents and children could share this learning process? There probably are but I've not heard of any.
