started scratching door

Chewy never did this before...he used maybe just paw at it a couple of times ...now he is just tearing my door apart when he wants to come back inside, how can i make him stop???

Do a search on Bell Training and teach him to ring the bell instead Use a big cow bell or maybe even use the door bell if he can reach it (or install his own).

bell training might work, however, this might be a unwanted behavior that he has associated with playing in a sort of way. one way to reduce and eventually eliminate the problem would be to wait and watch for him by the door and redirect his urge to "paw at the door" by having him sit, ring a bell, bark, whatever you want to use as a signal.
