I just wanted to let you know your are not waiting, in suspense, alone. Everyone here at BW is waiting with you and Mark. We all want to know about Asia and whats happening to her. Everyone is pulling for her and hoping for the best.

That is so sweet! Thank you for that!

Asia has been noticeably more tired today ... usually when people come over she jumps on them until they leave. Today, Mark's Mom stopped by and stayed for a good hour, then his Dad came by for about 20 minutes, and she played for a bit, then went and layed down. It's strange. It's hard to say whether or not it's because of this past weekend, if she's depressed because we haven't been out to play at all today, or because of her heart?

I guess we will find out soon enough ... I just wish we would find out any sooner! I'm here by myself right now (Mark went golfing with his Dad), and I'm scared that if something were to happen, I wouldn't know what in the world to do! I freaked out Monday morning whenever she collapsed and grabbed my purse and keys, but Mark got her in to the car. I don't know if I could have done it. I feel helpess and it sucks!

So, anyway, we are still here, doing as best as we can. Giving her lots of loving - hugs and kisses! She's still a little wiggle butt so that makes me happy!

Trust in yourself, that if something did happen while you were home alone, you would be able to get her in the car. Your adrenaline would take over and you would become Asia's 'supermom'. I have no doubt.

Just as a little tip though if you do ever have to pick her up, the easiest way would be to put one arm under her butt behind both legs and one arm in front of her chest across both legs. That would probably be the easiest way for you to grab her up quick and put her in the car.

Don't feel hopeless, you can do it.

When Lewis, the longhair cat, was diagnosed, he was gravely ill. His breathing was labored and he could not walk more than a few feet, and he would stop to rest. He had seen the vet twice earlier in the week, but no one suspected a heart problem until that fateful morning in late June, 1997. After a chest Xray at the vets, Lewis was on his way to Purdue to see a cardiologist.He had been given a shot of Lasix and it was working when I picked him up, as he had wet hinself. We were on triage and did get in immediately. His appetite was so poor I used a feeding syringe to force a bit of A/D to try and jumpstart his appetite. It seemed to work. Lewis was exhausted and with little energy for at least 6 weeks following the diagnosis. Little by little he got stonger and had a very nice quality of life until the last couple of months. The only thing he couldn't do after the heart failure was jump on top of the fridge. Cats are much more sedentary than boxers, but Lewis would still occasionally do a burn through the house. I would nearly have an attack myself when he got in his running mode.

Holden had the regular BCM, and really never had any symptoms except the collapse at death. But an enlarged heart is different than BCM.

I do hope you get Asia to a cardiologist very soon. Your regular vet must feel she is not in grave danger, but I would push to see a specialist as soon as I could. A proper diagnosis and correct treatment is key to living with heart disease.

I have just read through all of these posts so I would be updated on what is happening. I am so sorry to hear about your baby. We will keep you all in our prayers. I know you have been through a rough time and sometimes when it rains, it pours. I have been there and just want you to know that we are all here for you hoping and praying that everything will be ok. Killian sends Asia a big sloppy boxer kiss!

Holden's Mom, I'm sorry about your kitty :( I'm sorry for anyone who has had to deal with a pet being sick at all! :(

I have a quick question ... What does 'garded' mean?

I am reading over her information sheet again and it says:

"Prognosis: garded
Client Education: let owner know that pet needs to see cardiologist"

,and I just saw it somewhere on another website as well.

Does anyone know? It doesn't have to be spelt that way, either, because on the sheet they mispelled cardiologist, as well ...

It is so hard to keep her calm right now. It is a beautiful day outside and we can't go enjoy it ... this is hard ... :(

First off, let me start by saying this has been a terribly long past couple of weeks ... between my grandma's death, my friends, Mark, school, and work, I'm about to go out of my mind!

Something is not at all okay with our baby girl Asia. Since this weekend was my grandma's funeral, my entire family was there, and their dogs too. Asia ran around with my Aunt Jane's crazy chocolate lab, Molly, all weekend long. Asia is a big bundle of energy but even Molly wore her out. Needless to say, she has been sleeping since we got home.

This morning, Mark was walking out of the apartment to go to work and Asia's best friend (who she hasn't seen in awhile), Josie, was outside. Asia got up real quick and Josie ran into our apartment and they began playing. Asia was growling a lot and I was thinking maybe she was just tired. So, they went outside and were playing just fine. All of a sudden, Josie swatted Asia (she is a Boxer, too) and Asia fell on her side and didn't get up. ((I was inside, Mark was outside, when all this was happenning but I ran outside as soon as I saw her laying on the ground)). Mark was trying to lift her up and she was just like jelly. Her eyes were open but she looked confused and she wouldn't stand up - like her whole body was numb or something - and she urinated while on her side. We eventuelly got her up and ran inside to check her.

She wobbled inside and instead of drinking water (like normal), she went and layed down on her pillow ... I checked her gums and they were ghost white!

I got her in my car and ran over to our vet's office. They were so nice, they got me in right away. The vet checked her over and said it didn't sound like a seizure. I asked if it could have been from her getting in to anything and he told me No because they wouldn't explain why her gums went white. His prognosis (which isn't based on any facts as of yet) is that it is heart related.

He told me this could be the first of a series of events, or we may never see this happen again. I wondered if it could have just been from exhaustion? Everything I named he told me that couldn't be it because it wouldn't have caused her gums to go white.

So, she is still at the vets. I have nothing to do but sit here and wait. They are going to do two chest films and call me and we'll go from there. I just called them (she hasn't been there but for like 20 minutes) and told them that if they find anything seriously wrong, call me and tell me what they are going to do because I will do ANYTHING to keep her healthy!

Does anyone know what this could have been other than heart problems? Is that what it sounds like? Does anyone else have any other stories that could help me out with what I'm dealing with?

This is so hard - she's only a little over a year and a half old. If something happens to her, Mark and I will be absolutely devastated. I know it sounds crazy but she's like a child to us. Not the kind of child that we buy clothes for (except for cute sweaters during the winter:rolleyes: ), but the type of child that you start to miss when you're gone for a few hours or all day.

Anyway, the vet's office will be calling me at 2 to let me know what the X Rays showed, if anything, then I will be picking her up soon thereafter, hopefully.

Send us some get well wishes and healing vibes because we are in dire need of those right about now! :(

My last Boxer Cody, experienced a very similar attack after just playing ball in our yard....he wobbled and keeled over. We carried him inside and he finally got up on his own but was very weak. We took him in for tests and he was diagnosed with Myocardiopathy at age 4yrs. We went right on human meds and with frequent EKGs and diligent dosing of the pills on my part, he lived to be 10yrs.old. He did very well but was restricted in activities and actually died of a ruptured splenic tumor. So if it is diagnosed as a heart condition, it can be controlled and Asia can live to a ripe old age. Good luck!

Belle's condition was first considered "guarded". What I took that to mean was her prognosis depended on how she responded to medications and how rapidly the condition progressed. As things moved along, her prognosis became "poor" and then "grave". It seems to me that Belle was more severely affected than Asia is at this point in time, since your vet doesn't seem to be pushing to get her into the cardiologist. However, as Pam pointed out, proper diagnosis and treatment are the keys to living with heart disease, and the sooner Asia gets into the cardiologist the better. With that in mind, I would definitely be making phone calls tomorrow if I were you.

I started reading this thread today at work, and had to stop because I was in tears. I just finished read all 6 pages. I?m so sorry you and Asia are going though this.
