Don't feel bad!

You should feel GOOD for taking your doggie to the park. He loves you for it.
These things happen, and I'm sure he'll get over it. Unless the dog is very young... they usually brush these things off. If your dog wasn't timid or starting fights before this, I doubt anything is going to change with that.
I think dogs scar MUCH more from human abuse and negect, than from a few
scrapes in a dog-fight.

Oh, also... try grabbing for the hind legs, Donna. I've pulled many a fighting dog off that way. The collar pull is a tough way to go. The best is to get two people involved.. and both grab hind legs. The dogs have no chance that way. Also helps you keep your fingers. :p

Give Bud some extra love and treats tonight. He'll forget about this by the morning. :)

The vet said she thought it was a soft tissue injury. I haven't been in for x-rays yet. I thought about doing it this week, but I'm giving her ONE more week to try to see if it heals. It really hasn't, so I'll do x-rays this week.

She gets around on it fine.. it's just stiff when she gets up from lying down, and in the morning. She's got a limp that ranges from very slight (when up and about for a while) .. to severe when she first wakes up. I can't get her to react to any touch-type things. (poking/pulling on it) So, I do think it's probably something deep inside her shoulder. (not good) If the x-rays are negative, I suppose I'll have to consider an MRI. (and bankruptcy!)

I guess it could be arthritis, but at 18 months!?

I'm sure it'll work out fine. I'm just losing my patience and so is she!

Interesting side note.... I've seen SO many labs start fights. Funny, for dogs that have such a mellow rep. I've seen more labs start fights than Rotts.

Poor Bella. An MRI might not be a bad idea if you don't see anything bone related on the x-rays. In addition to muscle and tissue damage the MRI would also show any arthritis that may have developed because of the injury.

I hope she gets better soon, it's no fun for such a young'un to be out of commission like that.

We have all the remedies at the shop. If you come by you can pick up the food storage bins we are donating. Or if dana picks them up she can take them to BRLA and I'll send the remedies too. I'm sure your doing this but don't forget to give him acidophilus since he's on anti biotics.

Yep, got him on acidophilus ;) I can probably come by this weekend to pick up the bins (if Dana doesn't come by first).

Yeah Bud!

We are so happy to hear that Bud is doing well. Reznor (our baby)was the first dog that the lab grabbed when we first arrived but he just got that small cut on his nose which is fine now. Thank you for your help with that Donna. This is also the second time he was attacked by a lab. Even wierder is that at the dog park yesterday, he was attacked by a Greyhound that grabbed him by the neck and shook him really hard. It caused quite a bit of blood, but no real problem. Again, hope that Bud has a speedy recovery and that the next bash will be bigger and better. It was great to meet everyone and take care!

I thought that was the same lab?!

I had a long talk with the owner while waiting at the vets office. Neither of his dogs is fixed  so I politely read him the riot act about taking an un-neutered dog to the dog park. nonoicon

Also, I'm looking into doing the next bash at a different park in the valley. Hazel's mom told me about one that is calmer and has more responsible dog owners. I'm going to try and check it out this weekend ;).

next bash

Have you ever been to the park in Redondo Beach? It is our favorite and we have never had any problems there at all. Would that be more in the middle for everyone? I would say that about 80% or more of the dog people there basically follow their dogs around and we have only encountered two unneutered males there in the entire time we been going. Just a thought!

Dog Beach in Long Beach!!

cool2icon Long Beach area sponsers an off-leash day on the beach for dogs once a month! On March 30th from 2-4. Address is 4900 E. Ocean between Park Ave and Argonne. Here is the link for further information: http://www.hautedogs.org/beach2002.html.
Looks like it is a responsible crowd. We always take Lola to the dog beach in Huntington Beach. It is about 1 1/2 of beach for dogs to be off leash on and you can go 7 days a week. Maybe one of the boxer bashes in the near future can be there. I have never had a problem there with irresponsible dog owners. Most dogs that aren't acclamated socially the owners keep on a leash and away from the other dogs. It is a great place! :D
