Jan: I have the "normal" ipad (version 3) and I was thinking about the mini ipad because it looked a lot easier to carry.

That is why I got the Mini. It is light, easy to carry and it fits in my purse. I can carry it birding and it is much smaller than normal bird books. It also has their songs, which a regular book doesn't have.
