Sleeping Puppy

Is it normal for a ten-week-old puppy to sleep almost constantly??

He plays and shows a lot of energy but almost immediately turns off and falls asleep and sleeps for along time. My wife says maybe its like a baby and needs a lot of seep, but i don’t ever remember any other puppies sleeping as much. Your thoughts????:confused:

I remember when Sabastian (Rainbow Bridge ) was a pup he slept alot. We used to wonder the same thing. Seem'd like all he wanted to do was sleep, wake long enough to potty play hard and back to sleep. I personally think it's normal, part of the growing process just like a skin baby! But everyones opinions are different!

Pretty normal for a pup of that age.

Maggie used to go 90 to nothing and then like a light bulb, be asleep before you could blink. Nearly konk out fast asleep mid-bite of my pants leg. . . .

Oh, those puppy days. sigh.

Puppies DO sleep a lot because they are busy growing so fast. In fact, it really helps with the crate training, because you can just put them right inside when they are sleepy and they get used to the crate pretty fast that way. When Scrapper was a puppy, he would wake up early in the AM to go potty, and then he'd fall right back to sleep in my arms on the couch while we'd watch Animal Planet. And then more little naps all day long.

I wondered the same thing. If I stand still for my than 20 secs buddy is asleep on my feet. I wish i had the abilty to fall asleep like them.
I am sure in months to come they will more than make up for this.

Completely normal! I remember that I even worried so much about it that had to call the vet to make sure my baby was ok. He told me that puppies are just like babies, they do have lots of energy, but at the same time they spend it, and need to sleep “a lot” to gain a little more.

Mugsy also sleeps a lot. I've come to realize that he does not do mornings! LOL!! On weekends, he will sleep to at least 10 AM. We wake him up at 6 AM to eat (since we do that on the weekdays too) and he barely touches his food and then is zonked for 4 more hours. Throughout the day he sleeps quite a bit too. He always sleeps for at least 1/2hour after he eats. I think (or more like hope) that this is normal for puppies. I figure they are growing so fast that they need their sleep.

Congrats on the new puppy

When we first got Memphis we were lucky cbeause I work days and at the time my VF worked nights so she's was hardly ever alone the first few month we had her (until BF went back to days) and when I called during the day to check up on my baby (the dog not the BF!!!) it was always one of two things...they were napping or Memphis was tearing a@# around the house!!!

She's now 1 and like Mugsy Memphis does not do mornings, and on weekends she does still sleep alot, so I think it totally normal!

That's good to hear, i was hopeing that was the case. so far hes been a great puppy, ecept for the chewing of the couch :o

Emma is already 15 mths old and she can still be in mid stride, and that'switch' turns her off, and she naps.

Nothing to worry about as long as your baby is eating, drinking and evacuating normally.
