Well, I finally took the plunge and filled out an aplication to help out with a local boxer rescue. I won't be able to foster as I was told by hubby that if any came they would have to stay because I would become WAY TOO ATTACHED!
True, but there are many other ways of helping out. Hopefully they will approve me and I can offer something.

You will never regret this !!!! Fostering is hard...but actually when you see the family that they are going to and the joy on there faces...it makes to so much easier !!!!

The best of luck on your application !!!

Thank You!!

All rescues can use more help. There are lots of ways besides fostering. You might find that you can foster without getting too attached. I have rescued over a dozen boxers. They were all great dogs, but I told myself from the start, that they were temporary visitors. Seeing them go to forever homes makes for a happy occasion. When fostering, many dogs need lots of support, training and rehabilitation.

It is one of the most rewarding things you can do for our needy boxers.

Well, the process is underway on the rescue's side. They have called one of my references. On the application I specifically responded that I was unable to foster but they still asked my reference about my home. They also told my reference that if she talked to me to let me know that they would be calling soon to set up a home visit.

A home visit is fine, I don't mind that at all. I was wondering though that if I am not going to be fostering what is it that they are looking for? Could it be to see how I interact with my boxer? That was all that I could think of. So, still waiting to see what happens next. Will keep you posted. Does anyone else hep out with Greater Ohio Boxer Rescue?

It's great to see that your future possible rescue is doing a home check, even though you're not able to foster. One, it's nice to meet someone face to face and another, the way you treat your dog, family and your home is probably the way that you'd treat other dogs and the public in general.

If you live like 'Sanford and Son' or keep your dog outdoors at all times, you probably won't be a good candidate to volunteer. Some people can look REALLY good on paper, but once you get to their house it's creepy.....you need to get out asap!!

You can get to know someone A LOT better in person than on the phone. Plus, another good reason is that if for some reason you are able to do an emergency foster or do an over night, they have already checked your home and they don't have to worry who is watching this pup.

I know that it may seem like a great ordeal to become a volunteer with a rescue, but I applaud your rescue for doing it's proper research on it's future volunteers!! appicon
