We are having problems with our 10 week old boxer puppy and was wondering if anyone has experienced this.
We brought Wilson home 2 weeks ago as an addition to our 2 year old boxer and our 7 year old boxer,
He is a cutie, and adjusted so well,
all was fine monday night when he was out playing with the big kids, then yesterday he sarted throwing up had diarrhea, became increasingly lethargic, until he couldn't stand up, my husband got him to the vet just as he started seizing, his blood sugar was 15, and he was quite close to death,
they said he had Giardia and was underweight, sent him home with IV and IV glucose and Flagyl pills,
around 7pm he stared seizing again and I gave him a shot of glucose, perked him up he vomited again and I took him to the emergency.
They tested negative for parvo, and put him on perenteral nutrition, and kept him over night, when I picked him up this morning they said his sugar kept crashing all night despite the IV fluids.
I took him back to the vet with his IV and they did blood work and he showed a white count of 40,000 and liver enzymes off the chart.
It turns out that the Giardia, is not what is causing this acute illness, but a liver abcess, that who knows how or when he got.
He is on more antibiotics now and will do ultrasound and blood work later today, Vet is unable to do surgery right now to drain because his condition is poor.
He has given me a survival rate of 60%.
Has anyone experienced this before and what was your outcome?
my husband just came back from visiting him and he looks terrible, our healthy, plump ,stocky puppy in now weak and emaciated
