Boxer Pal
We are having problems with our 10 week old boxer puppy and was wondering if anyone has experienced this.
We brought Wilson home 2 weeks ago as an addition to our 2 year old boxer and our 7 year old boxer,
He is a cutie, and adjusted so well,
all was fine monday night when he was out playing with the big kids, then yesterday he sarted throwing up had diarrhea, became increasingly lethargic, until he couldn't stand up, my husband got him to the vet just as he started seizing, his blood sugar was 15, and he was quite close to death,
they said he had Giardia and was underweight, sent him home with IV and IV glucose and Flagyl pills,
around 7pm he stared seizing again and I gave him a shot of glucose, perked him up he vomited again and I took him to the emergency.
They tested negative for parvo, and put him on perenteral nutrition, and kept him over night, when I picked him up this morning they said his sugar kept crashing all night despite the IV fluids.
I took him back to the vet with his IV and they did blood work and he showed a white count of 40,000 and liver enzymes off the chart.
It turns out that the Giardia, is not what is causing this acute illness, but a liver abcess, that who knows how or when he got.
He is on more antibiotics now and will do ultrasound and blood work later today, Vet is unable to do surgery right now to drain because his condition is poor.
He has given me a survival rate of 60%.
Has anyone experienced this before and what was your outcome?
my husband just came back from visiting him and he looks terrible, our healthy, plump ,stocky puppy in now weak and emaciated

I am so so sorry you all are going through this. It must be horrible. I don't have any experience with this nor do I have advice. I just want to say your poor baby is in our thoughts. Please keep us posted.

We are sending you boxer well wishes! I hope the little one pulls through with flying colors. Try to think positively - you must know Boxer's are fighters, let him know your fighting for him, and give him lots of love.

Thank you, will post when I hear anything else, I thought I had been through everything with my boxers, and then this.
Dax is now 7 and I have noticed an irregular heart beat on her, she is getting up there, so we brought Wilson in now as Ruger the 2 year old needs a playmate.
Dax suffered through the whole allergy deal then I almost lost her one year ago to toxic ingestion of a shrub, she spend 3 days on a valium IV and because her temp was 107 coming in the door they worried about brain damage, well you are right they are fighters cause she made it and is fine.
Took her several days to walk again but was running as soon as she could,
Ruger was 4months at the time and he was the shrub eater, Dax had never done that before that terrible day, but he was mildly toxic and came home that day, I always wondered if she was protecting him.
She is always mothering hence her 3 pseudo pregnancies.
It was only 6 months later that Ruger developed demodectic mange, and had to go through 2 months of Mitaban dips and a neuter.
I just can't believe this is happening to little Wilson.
Thank you for all your kind words..will keep posting.

I wanted to let you know that Wilson passed away last night near midnight,
he required surgery, but he was too sick,
We only had him for such a short time, but that was a wonderful time, he is missed deeply,
Thank you for all your kind thoughts.
