I have a 7 week old little girl who we've had for three days now. We have dry food for her, she eats about a cup a day. We've never owned a Boxer before and she looks awfully skinny. Is there anything else I should be feeding her? She eats the food ok but I've seen other things that say I should be giving her a cup 3 times daily! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When we first got Sofia, the breeder told us to give her a cup 3 times a day. She would only eat breakfast and dinner, never touched her lunch. Instead of wasting the food, we started giving her about 5 or 6 biscuits at lunch. This seemed to have worked.
She is 4 1/2 months now and we give her about 1 1/2 cups for breakfast and dinner and about 10 biscuits at lunch.

I would definitely try feeding Bailey 3 times a day.
Good luck!

It all depends on the food you choose. In
an adult, you can feed up to six cups of
certain (cheaper) foods, then you switch
to a more expensive, better quality food
and you're only feeding two cups a day.

Puppies are more variable in how much
they need. At 7-8 weeks, my puppies
eat about 3 cups a day each (1 c 3 times/day).
This is on a mixture of Eukanuba Large Breed/
Wellness.

What was your breeder feeding at the time
you left, and did she give you some of the
puppy's food to mix with whatever you are
using now?

I can't think of ANY food that would be sufficient
at one cup a day for a rapidly growing puppy.
Weigh her now and daily until you figure out
what to feed -- 7 week old puppies don't have a lot of
reserve strength and can drop weight very
quickly.

But definitely talk to the breeder and your vet.

I have had 2 litters of boxer puppies. One thing I have noticed is that boxer puppies are not as heavy as some other breeds of puppies. Also, I would check with your breeder on her worming schedule. Puppies should be wormed at 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 weeks of age. This is so-o-o important. It won't matter how much you feed your puppy if he has worms. Definitely talk to your vet.

At 7 weeks I was still mixing puppy formula milk with dry puppy food. I also bought Nutro canned puppy food and mixed it too. Mine gained a lot of weight fast. I feed them 4 times a day until they were about 3 months then cut back to 3 times a day. Mine are healthy and happy now.
