Thank goodness we're not the only owners of a biter, this is the first pup we've owned who is a terrible biter. She gets overtired and we can't get her to sleep enough during the day.Nightime is a 12 hour stretch,no problem there, but in the daytime, she just "forgets"to sleep and if she ever does lie down, she wakes at the least sound and is overactive. She's 5 months old now,and when she gets overtired, she runs at you and bites.I've tried the water spray bottle but she loves it ,and drinks the water??????
I've ignored her,put my hands behind my back then she bites my toes and that really hurts. How can we get her to rest enough,as sleep is an essential for a growing pup. We know how tired she is just by looking at her red droopy eyes. We're at our wits end as she's our fourth boxer, but she's also our first bitch. She's very dominent too,and all the dogs lie down and give themselves over to her when they see her approach. Is this normal for a bitch at this age and will she grow out of it? HELP please. This sounds familiar. My guy Luke sometimes gets the same way, like a human toddler, can't get him to sleep, he gets overtired and hyper, then starts the serious bite/play. One word... crate. I've found that it's the only thing that works at that point. When he is getting tired and I know he will reach a crazy point, or if I know we have company coming, I will crate him before that point and he sleeps. If he knows I won't back down and let him out, he does sleep. At first he did object to me stopping his biting with a "time out" but now he realizes that he really can cool out! He now sleeps thru every noise (almost) as long as he is in the crate. If he's on the floor napping... he's up and going in a flash.
Before that I tried everything. getting him interested in toys etc.. Ignoring him, ending playtime, but he would refuse the toy and always lunge at my arm or sometimes face! Or he would leap at us on the couch and start ripping at the couch if he couldn't reach us. The crate has been a godsend for us. It's not just for bedtime at night. LOL What a happier guy now.

She hates her crate with a vengeance

Hi Tink, Sileas hates her crate and screams and whines when she's put in.At night she has a different crate in our bedroom and she sleeps there soundly all through the night. She is like a child, when she finally exhausted, lies on the floor to grab 40 winks,at the slightest sound, she's up and raring to go and find out where the noise is coming from. Visitors are also a problem as she gets so excited that she floors them. Not everyone appreciates being attacked by a 35lb ball of energy. We have a grandchild on the way,and she'll have to calm down otherwise I won't get to see him. Our youngest son, also a boxer fanatic, gets her to calmly lie down next to him.......exasperating for us. Tonight, she was so exhausted after a day eating all the heads off our tulips and daffodils ( very sneakily,I might add),she slept for about an hour, but has now woken up full of energy and is chasing a ball around our living room.Thank goodness at 10,30 she decides she wants to go to bed and we have "happy hour"before we join her.I'll try and crate her when I think she's getting overtired and see if it helps. Keep your fingers crossed and thanks for your advice. Sileas'mum.
