Help she is chasing the cats in to hiding
Shelby is chasing my 2 cats and the cats are so passive becasue they are inside cats. So they won't swat at Shelby they just run from her and i was wondering if anyone had any information on how to teach Shelby to be nice to the cats becasue I would really like for them to one day get along.
Thanks

Thats the same with me and my problem...but mine is 13wks...

Katanna is chasing my cat and worst of all going into the litter box, she is so grose, any chance she gets she goes into the litter box!! My cat, Jasmine, she is an inside cat aswell, but swots and hisses at Katanna, meanwhile she is a very cautious with everything, basically runs away from everything, but Im am trying and trying to get Katanna to be nice to Jasmine, because when katanna is older I want those two to be friends. Teh only other dog Jasmine has liked and layed with was my last dog we had, Tara, a german shephard, (she got put down, because of health issuses :( , so I want Katanna and Jasmine to have the same special bond as Tara and Jasmine did, and I have NO idea what to do, to try to get Katanna to stop chasing Jasmine...any help aswell????

Thanks
Ashley

Completely Boxer Crazy
Hi Shelby and Ashley,

I don't have an answer but I can tell you my experience. I have an older cat and when I got Bailey the cat showed her who was boss. Bailey has never tried to harm the cat and in fact is afraid of her. When we got Jasmine she tries to play with the cat but the cat wants nothing to do with her. My cat does swat at Jasmine and I think she is getting the clue that the cat does not want to play. Good luck and keep me posted on how it goes.

I have the same experience as BRIDGIT. The cat showed the dog who was boss and that was the end of the power struggle.

Since that's not always the case perhaps you can try a squirt bottle filled with water. When the dog chases the cat give a squirt and a firm "NO". Another thing is obedience training. If you can get basic obedience skills down (sit, down, stay) you should be able to use those skills to stop the dog from chasing the cat.

My cat, Jade, isn't afraid of our 12 week old puppy, Hailey, but she gets irritated with her. She plays with Hailey and chases her around the house, but when Hailey gets excited she bounds around Jade in circles barking at the top of her lungs. Not only does this bother Jade, but the noise is a bit much for us as well. I think I'll try the spray bottle idea for this issue.....
Oh, and Hailey loves Jade's litter box too.
  YUCK! We call it Hailey's own private box of Almond Rocas.
I would LOVE to hear a solution to that problem.

I have a cat also. And i agree with Donna. Obedience class will give you more control over the dogs to make them stop chasing the cats. You would be able to give them a time out with "sit/stay" or "laydown/stay" commands. The squirt bottle with a stern "no" command is another good idea. As i have used it for other things too (mainly biting at my feet). My cat and dog are the best of friends. They play together everyday. And even sleep together.

I certainly know how you feel, only my problem child is 12 months old. Our new rescue of 3 days is so determined to chase the cat. The cat will let her sniff him for a long time if we are making sure the new pup isn't being to pushy or smacking him like the cat is his new sparring partner. I'm going to try the water bottle. I'm hoping Cassie will just get used to the cat, like our other dogs have done. But the others we had at a much younger age, they were smaller than the cat when we brought them home. She does listen very well, in every area EXCEPT when chasing the cat, hehe. She's come SO far in the passed few days. We can be patient. I'm sure if she's always never allowed to chase the cat, some day, she'll just quit trying? One always can hope, can't they?

Mickey and "his" kitty, Minnie, are fast friends, but... Mickey is so much bigger and Minnie will run and hide for a short time but then she's right back with him. Last night, or rather 1:00 this morning, Minnie was under the bed trying to get Mickey to play with her! nonoicon I put her out of the bedroom and closed the door, she clawed at the new carpet at the door! I ended up crating the cat for the night! Didn't seem to bother her a bit, she was happy and sassy when I let her out, but Mickey was confused!

Our vet said that they would be good friends, we just hope Minnie gets big real quick (but not before she gets declawed!)
