Shelby is allergic to bee stings

Over the weekend i took Shelby to my parents house and she must have got stung by a bee and her jowels sweled up really bad! And it started to go into the throat. So i called my vet at home and called him in to the clinic! I was worried if we would have left her for a couple more hours then she would have probably died! She is only 4 months old and this is the first sign of this! I now have to keep her away from bees! Does anyone else have this proble??/
At least the vet was able to save her on time!!!!

Yes! Jasper has been stung twice, by wasps we think. The second time was a dozen times worse.

That's my thread following Jasper's last allergic reaction.

My husband asked the vet for some tablets to give in case I can't get him to a vet (I have no car).

The injection is much better though because it works so much quicker. So for us, getting Jasper to the vet as quickly as possible is the plan for future stings.

My plans in the summer are herbal insect repellent for both the dogs and I am looking into plants that naturally repel insects. Aside from that, I guess watching them closely is the only other thing.

I do know that leaving Jasper outside when I am not home is not an option.

It's a scary thing, especially when they are little. (Jasper's first sting was when he was 3 months old) Hopefully both our curious puppies will learn to stay away from those nasty flying bugs!

Max had allergies to bee's as well. They vet told us to give him 1
tablet of benedrly. It workes great.

Brutus has a habit of chasing the cute little yellow jackets and usually he pays for it. The first time this happened he started with a few bumps and then his entire body broke out. We called the vet and we were told to give him benedryl and asprin and to bring him in if he began to have breathing problems. Luckily he was able to breathe fine but it did take about 2 days to get rid of all the hives.

Now when he starts to break out we give him a benedryl ASAP and that usually stops the breakout.

My foster was just stung this weekend and her jowl swelled up. She didnt break out in hives and never acted like it affected her. She continued to eat, run and play. I gave her some benedryl as well to prevent any issues and today it seems to be pretty much gone.

The same thing happens to Jack but the Dr. didnt know what he got into. Can ants do the same thing to them? Jack just broke out with hives about 10 min. ago Igave him 1.5 tablets ofBenadryl.

Rule of thumb--------give 1 -25mg tablet per lb of dog.

for a 50lber-2 tablets
" " 75lber-3 tablets and so on at least thats what my vet said.

How scary for you!!

I keep benedryl on hand at all times for Nedra. I'm not sure whether she is allergic or not, but it is better to be safe than sorry!

Loke swelled up real bad once. My hubby had just let her in and left for work, and I walked in the other room about 3o minutes later to find her lying down. She was so swollen you could barely make out where her eyes were. She also had some bumps all over her body. The vet said it looked like popcorn! Needless to say I freaked and got on the phone to my husband, he's a 2 minute drive away. He rushes home and off she goes. I've never seen him so concerned over a "dog", as he refers to them. Well, the vet gave her a shot and some pills to take. She had some raspy breathing, and if we had been much later in discovering her, who knows?

Are you sure it was a bee sting. My little baby gets hives just because and has done so since she was a puppy--she is now 15 months. But her jowls have gotten swollen 2 times. Once it was her eyes (lids) ears, throat and jowls. It was horrible, she was not stung. It just happened all of the sudden. I rushed her to the vet and they determined she either ate something that she was allergic to or its just something that can happen to boxers due to their sensitive nervous systems. The second time it was just the jowls and neck, i gave her benadryl and prednisone the vet gave me to keep on hand for future probs. and it nipped it in the butt right away.
She just got stung right on the chin for the first time by a bee this weekend while camping we saw it happen and pulled the stinger out right away. The area swelled just as it would on a person i gave her 2 benadryl right away and it was gone in about 2 hrs. So you might want to rethink the whole being allergic to bee stings thing, at least with mine the reaction was not nearly as severe as when her jowls and other body parts swelled for no noticable reason.

Soda was stung by a bee about 6 months ago. She must love the smell of flowers because she always sniffs them. ANyway I noticed half of her face was swollen (must admit it looked really funny) although I did feel sorry for her. I looked on her jowls and noticed the stinger still in the inside of her lip. The stingr sac though had been fuly administered. We took her to the vet who gave her an antihistamine and an anti inflamatory. She as fine until the next day where she broke out in hives. We then went back to the vet who said she must be allegic to one of the injections and gave us some cream to get rid of the hives. I do feel sorry for them, but Boxers are suppose to be prone to skin allergies ain they!

Oh what a scare that is, our Athena got stung by something a few months ago, we aren't sure if it was a bee or scorpion, she went outside, came in got a drink of water, ran through the living room, then on the way back she started staggering, then I watched her back legs look like they were paralyzed and down she went, I thought she was dying, her breathing slowed, and she was disoriented, we were all standing around her crying, my husband managed to keep her going, got her to stand up, next thing she was covered in hives, we gave her Benadryl, she slept for a few hours and was fine. What every got her stung her in her ear, that was the only mark we found on her.
