Sheba's Gone To The Bridge

It has been awhile since I've visited BW. Life has been hectic. My mother, who is a member also, (puppypas2003), never did grasp computer technology well enough to post herself, but she enjoys visiting this site often. This, however, is a post that she could not bring herself to do, even if she could. Her beloved Sheba (my Xena's sister) was helped to the bridge yesterday at 5:55pm. Sheba took seriously ill last Wednesday when she began to have seizures through the night. Thursday the seizures were more frequent and powerful. The vet saw her at 4:00pm and ran bloodwork, along with some other tests. Within an hour, Sheba was diagnosed with a tumor at the base of her brain that was causing pressure and resulting in seizures. As well, she was found to have advanced liver disease. This, combined with neurological problems in her hips causing her to drag her back feet, was too much for her to bare. My mother was not ready to say goodbye, and in fact, was hopeful that Sheba would recover somehow. She took her home that day with Diazepam and Phenobarbitol. She had 5 syringes for her to inject when a seizure occurred, to stop it. Come Monday, she had gone through all 5 syringes and Sheba could not control her bladder or bowels nor could she stand on her own without falling. I went with my mother to the vet yesterday at 5:30pm and by 5:55, Sheba had crossed the bridge.
My mother knows that the group here at BW will understand the enormity of her loss. Sheba (and Xena) brought all the normal joy any boxer puppy would, but they helped us to get through a very difficult time. They came into our lives within 1 month of my fathers passing. Having them in our lives had helped us immensely with the grief we felt for the loss of my father. Saying goodbye to Sheba yesterday was also like letting a part of my dad go...again. It was heart-wrenching for my mother, and for our family.
Sheba...sweet girl. Faithful, loyal, extremely loving...always looking for a warm lap to lay your head in, or a stray ray of sunlight to fit your oversized bulk in..lol! You made us laugh with your normal daily routine of displaying your very vocal abilities of alerting mom that it was time for your cookie, or time for bed. Did you ever realize just how important you were? You helped to heal the aching heart of my mother and for that I will always be grateful. Run free girl...enjoy the absence of pain! Mom loves you...I love you, and we will never forget you.

RIP Sheba - November 17, 1996 - October 22, 2007 angelicon

Sharon -- please express my deepest sympathies to your mom and family. We had to help our dog cross the bridge last month because of seizures. She had also lost the use of her hind legs due to a degenerative spinal disorder. It was a tough decision but I know that we did what was best for Lizzie. Sounds like Sheba had a great 11 years with a wonderful loving family. I hope your hearts heal with time.

Godspeed sweet Sheba.

I am so very sorry to hear about you and your mom's loss. It is amazing how these creatures can have such an impact on our lives, how they can drag us through even the darkest of times. No doubt the loyalty and companionship of Sheba will be alive forever in the heart of both you and your mom.

Sheba, you were so obviously loved. Run free up there until you the day when you are reunited, sweet girl.

My deepest condolences to your Mom and your family. Obviously Sheba was put on this earth for a very special reason-to heal your Mom and you. I am so sorry for your loss and only pray that all those sweet memories comfort you. It is amazing what gifts these babies are to us, and how soon they are gone. May your spirit soar Sheba with all the boxer angles gone before you angelicon
