Hi folks,
I hope you can offer me a little insight into a problem that developed yesterday.
Homer is will be 5 months old on June 8. He's been a great pup and we've had no medical issues up until now.
Yesterday, I was out with Homer when he suddenly seemed to collapse. He just fell, turned to his side and started "paddling" his legs. This lasted for about 15 secs. Then, he turned and was laying on his belly looking very dazed for about 30 sec. After that, he seemed fine.
However, yesterday afternoon the same thing happened although to a lesser extent. This time, after collapsing and waving his legs, he popped right back up and seemed fine. The same thing happened once more this afternoon.
This morning I had him to the vet. He drew blood, urinalysis and stool sample. However, it will take a day for the results. He also wants me to take him to a neurologist which I will do.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Nothing has changed in his daily routine. Same food, no chemicals have been added to the grass, etc.
I'd appreciate any input. As you all can guess, we've become very attached to Homer and want to figure this out and get it resolved ASAP.
Thanks,
David

My last boxer developed seizures in her later part of life as a consequence of brain tumors. Your pup however, will most certainly not have tumors at it's age.

But I really sympathise with you .... there is nothing more horrid than the helplessness we feel when our pups are having seizures. Just be there to hold them and show that you care, cuz it's very frightning for the poor things.

But good news is that seizures are usually controlled easily with medication. Your vet will help ... no problem there. Tasha was on a drug called Phenobarb.

I wish you well with your li'l pooch.

Hi all and thanks for your responses.
Well, it's beginning to look more and more like epilepsy. All of the blood, stool and urine tests came back negative. His heart, ears and eyes all appear to be okay as well. I've talked with several owners of epileptic dogs and the seizures can range to severe, lasting half an hour in which the dog has to be held down as not to injure him/her self, to a minor blackout. The next step is to see the neurologist which, unfortunately, can't be done until a week from Saturday.
All in all, I'm feeling okay about this. I know that treatment is effective and this isn't something that will shorten or seriously hinder his life.
As I get more info, I'll post it.
Thanks again for your replies!
