Super Boxer
I just came across your thread and wanted to tell you that I wish for the best for you and your baby. I cannot imagine what you are going through. Muggsy is having a lump removed and sent to the lab next week. That makes me nervous. Send your baby boxer hugs and kisses from Muggsy and Jack. And I send you the best of luck. Stay strong!

BabyTyson,

Thanks for the kind words. I'll check out the website. I actually broached this subject with my oncologist and she said that right now probably wasn't a good time to be messing with his diet. I kind of agreed with her. I mean we're using chemo pumping all those drugs into his system and then to be giving him a lot of anitoxidants and supplements at the same time might be too much. I have also read where a lot of antioxidants and supplements can mess with the absorption of the chemo drugs.

AllisonJ,

Since you've been through exactly the same thing I'ld like to ask when his lymph nodes started to go up again how quickly before he had serious problems. Riggo had a CBC done yesterday at the local vet then faxed to the oncologist. He was supposed to get Adriamyacin today but she said that his counts were just a little too low and we will get another CBC done Wed and then hopefully treat him Thursday. His left mandibular gland is getting big and I know these things can escalate fast. On my own I've started to give him extra prednisone hoping this can keep him under control till Thursday but I'm worried about how quickly this will advance. I guess I'll be having some sleepless nights worrying till Thursday.

Hey there. I'm sorry to hear this...

Things with Abby progressed really quickly. I noticed swollen nodes on Dec. 26th. We had a chemo session for her scheduled on January 7th. I had called the vet to see if I could get her in sooner, but he was booked solid. At this point, however, we had come to the end of the road. He had told me that when the time came when the 2nd protocol no longer worked, there was not much more that could be done. It was really aggressive. She got so sick and we helped her to the Bridge on January 3rd.

Hang in there. 2 more days. The Adriamyacin is pretty strong stuff. Hopefully it will do the trick. Good luck you two. I think of you often.

AllisonJ,

Well it sounds like it was a couple of days. I gave him extra prednisone yesterday. They haven't gotten bigger but they haven't shrunk either. His appetite of course is really good, his energy level when I went home at lunch seemed a little low. Hopefully she can treat him tomorrow. This is so nerve racking.

Update,

His mandibular nodes continue to be a problem. We saw the oncologist on Friday and she started him on a new protocal; DMAC. She still seemed positive and I flat out asked her if this doesn't work is this the end of the line and she said no because she didn't think he was drug resistent yet. He got a slow infusion of one of the drugs friday morning. She told me that it would take a couple of days but as of today (monday) I haven't seen any progress. THey still seem as big to me as they were last week. I'm wondering if he just isn't responding anymore to the chemo. The usual pattern I've seen is that he gets treated on a Friday I see some shrinkage by Sunday or Monday and they are usually completely gone by Tuesday. I'm trying to stay hopeful but am preparing for the worst.

I also noticed a blood spot behind his back knees. I'm not sure if he's been nibbling back there or what. This kind of has me freaked out because there are nodes back there also.

Riggo update,

I just took Riggo to my local vet and I hope I'm wrong but it isn't looking good. He received a treatment of Cosmogen and Alkeran on Friday from his oncologist. Seemed fine Saturday and early Sunday. Since Sunday evening it has been a struggle to get him to eat and his energy level has deteriorated every day. My local vet examined his lymph nodes and did some blood work. The results came back what I had feared that his blood work seemed pretty good meaning that it wasn't side effects from chemo that he received. My local vet told me that he thought the cancer had started to run wild causing Riggo to lose his appetite and decrease his energy level. He is going to call the oncologist tomorrow to speak with her and I think I'm going to hear what I've been expecting but not looking forward to. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I tried to be strong but couldn't help it and broke down on the way home with Riggo. This sucks he's such a terrific dog and should've led a long life. Damn that cancer.
