Riggo D,
I have been following your posts regarding Riggo's illness from the first one.
You have been such a trooper thru this ordeal so it is alright for you to break down. You have done so much to help Riggo. He is very lucky to have a family that loves him so much, but I am sure he knows that already.
My thoughts are with you & Riggo.

Riggo D,

So sorry for you & your baby. I went through this about 2 1/2 Yrs. ago.
My little boy niki had Lymphoma, we started Chemo treatments in July
and he did real good until christmas. We started taking him up to cornell
university every two weeks, but we couldn't get him back into remission.
I finally ended the chemo cause it just took so much out of him and he
was with us for another 4 weeks. The day before he died we went for a short walk and he stayed by my side the whole day.then Monday morning he just seemed so tired & wouldn't eat or drink anything so i called my vet & we put him to sleep. He never seemed to be in any pain & if I had a chance to do it again I would as long as he isn't in any pain.

Enjoy him while you can.

I am so very sorry to hear about Riggo....you guys are fighting a very brave battle and I know how draining it can be. I don't know which is worse, to lose someone suddenly or to watch them fight for so long and then slowly lose the battle. You have both my respect and admiration for how much you have done for Riggo. Both you & Riggo are in my prayers, give your baby lots of hug & kisses from me.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and words. It has been a very draining weekend. I had a long heart to heart talk with his oncologist on Friday. I told her that I am reaching the end both emotionally and financially and that I didn't want to drag this out for his sake and mine since he had very enlarged nodes that had not been responding and he seemed so tired. I was told that there really were only 2 other protocols that they could do, one was call the MOP ? protocol and the other was a relatively inexpensive pill that they would administer every 3 weeks. The pill would usually be done last as it really can wallop their white blood counts and if it isn't successful they are stuck not treating them for 2 weeks. The did of course tell me that they have seen worse dogs that did eventually respond. What we decided to do was try the Adriamycin/DTC combination that worked well for him back in November and then followup with the chemo pill protocol as an almost maintenance which this oncologist normally doesn't do. We are going to ride this out and hope that it works. This is going to be the 'Hail Mary' pass for my beloved Riggo.

The DTC is administered every day for 5 straight days. They left a catheter in him which he didn't seem to bother all weekend because he was so exhausted. Unfortunately he managed to rip it out last night. It was amazing he somehow managed to pull the catheter out from underneath the bandages while leaving the bandages on. I looked down at my living room floor and was shocked when I saw the catheter laying there and the bandages still on his leg. I was kicking myself in the butt this morning for not putting his Elizabethan collar on yesterday but I was afraid of any more constriction around his neck as his nodes are very enlarged and he has been breathing very heavy. Not having the catheter in didn't bode well for the injection this morning. They had a heck of a time finding a vein they could use as all his veins are almost shot. This is a true sign to me that it is time for the injections to end. We have one more day of the DTC and then that is it for injections. If everything goes well and the nodes get reduced we'll start him on that pill protocol.

I did feel his nodes this morning and they did seem a little smaller and a lot softer. They were like rocks Friday and Saturday so hopefully this is working. He also seems to be breathing a little easier.

The Boxer world community has been terriffic support. Thanks again to all of you.
