before you do anything, i would suggest, finishing the antibiotic regime, if it still hasnt cleared talk with your vet about this inside/outside cough behavior. Again, congrats!

I thought of that as well and yes, I am waiting to finish out this course of antibiotics to see what happens. Although I have NO IDEA what in the world inside my house could cause it as I haven't used any new cleaning products since getting Joe and he was FINE no coughs whatsoever for the first week. He literally started coughing the day after going to the veterinarian.
The robitussin works wonderful. Doesn't completely get rid of the cough but I can tell Joe is more comfortable and can rest (so can I). The coughing is less frequent and intense!!!

[ He STOPPED eating altogether yesterday after breakfast...he wouldn't touch dinner and is TOTALLY uninterested in food AT ALL. Even good dog treats!!! His attitude is fine, he seems to have energy, but that won't last long if he doesn't eat. The vet appointment is this Saturday at 10am...HELP!

The Kennel cough seems to be clearing up!!! Joe has been eating regularly, and is far less 'ribby' than before. He really does have a wonderful personality. He has MUCH more energy and is now running around quite often on our walks. EVENTUALLY...i'd love to take him with me for my evenings runs. I'm so excited, he has really turned into a fine and dandy Boxer. Thank you all for your assistance through the wierd stuff and flip out moments!!! I'll post pictures when I take more of him running around.

Joe Boxer UPDATE - child chaser!!??!!
Well. All is well healthwise with Joe, he is still on the small side but a healthy weight and his coat is shiny and soft. A huge improvement from when he first came home.
Joe is an excellent running companion. I've got him up to 2 miles...one mile running, walk the second and never on a hot day...hot to Joe is over 75 degrees. He HATES it.
I took him camping with a group of friends and learned unfortunately that Joe likes to fight anything with fur and four legs. I don't understand as he was brought in with a small boston teriier and they obviously had been raised together. He is still intact. Now that he is a healthy weight and the kennel cough is completely cleared up i'm taking him back to the vet for a weigh in and to be neutered. I'm hoping it might help, but not quite sure as he is five years old.
I also learned that Joe is NOT to be trusted around children which scares the hell out of me. I was fishing and had him tied to a tree with his 25 foot training lead...i hadn't noticed that he'd chewed THROUGH his lead and a little boy calmly walked past...Joe bristled his hair and took off after the kid...thank goodness the boy was quick and able to get into his motorhome before joe caught up. I was horrified and went to apologize to the boy, Anthony and his family. I explained i had just gotten joe from a shelter and was completely unaware that he would behave that way. Anthony came back out and gave joe a pat on the head and joe was fine, but it is a huge liability to have him chasing after children so with that said and done...i've modified my plans and hopes about taking joe to more 'events'. He puffs up and growls at anyone and anything he feels is threatening for whatever reason. My only thought would be maybe getting a muzzle of some sort, but those always seemed cruel to me. I don't know.
Other than the child chasing...joe's still the perfect dog. No indoor accidents, nothing chewed up. Just a happy nub wagging fuzzball to come home to daily.

Sorry to hear about Joe's new "issues." This is just my opinion, based on similar situations with our dog, but Joe getting aggressive in those situations may be due to barrier aggresion (sometimes called leash aggression). We're battling that with our guy now. He's pretty good most of the time, but every once in a while, for no "apparent" reason (there's always a reason, we just don't have the same level of senses he does!), he'll lunge or bark at passersby, bicycles, kids, etc. I've read lots of articles and consulted with our trainers (as soon as my husband finds a job, we'll be hiring a behaviorist), and I think #1, we need to establish with him that we are alphas and that we will protect him, that he doesn't need to do the protecting, and #2, he needs more socialization.
#1: We practice "nothing in life is free" with our pup; he doesn't get to do anything fun unless he works for it. Even when we feed him, we'll dump the food in the bowl and he's not allowed to eat until we say "OK" (that's the "leave it" command at work). We go out of the door first, he does not sleep in our bed, he is not allowed on the furniture, etc. So we thought we had pretty much established ourselves as alphas of the pack (we've had him for over a year now). But, outside on the leash is a different story.
#2: Of course, socialization is a double-edged sword because in order for him to be socialized, he has to be around other people and dogs, but that makes us a little nervous when he's on leash. That's why we need a behaviorist's help, and I think that's the route you should go, too.
Don't give up on him. He'll come around. Training is an ongoing and forever challenge, especially with our exceptionally smart boxers! Keep loving him and training him and hopefully he'll adjust to become a "good" doggie in every situation. Again, I would recommend a behaviorist. Also, doing a search on aggression here at BW is a great start and you'll find loads of info. Good luck!
