Savannah, GA

DH and I have been talking about leaving Birmingham, AL. And in our discussion of where we might want to go, Savannah, GA, popped up. I've never been to Savannah (been all around it, just never in it ). Does anyone on BW live there, or visit there often? I've always heard really nice things about Savannah - seems to have it all; beach access, city life, old Southern charm. Sounds wonderful, but never having been there, can't say for sure.

Any info would be appreciated.

My mother and her side of the family are from Savannah. It is a nice area, for the most part. Of course, there's alot of Savannah that you don't see on tv so I strongly suggest going there and seeing it for yourself. You could stay in one of the bed and breakfasts and just take your time. If you love the beach, seafood and culture, then it's the place for you. There are some really nice areas and but then there's quite a bit that's run-down. That's why I suggest spending time there. The part in Forrest Gump where he's waiting on the bus,while telling his stories, takes place in one of the squares in Savannah. Also, on the cooking channel there's a lady, I believe her name is Paula, has her restaurant based there. It's called Lady & Sons.

I've only visited but it was very nice, the southern charm just oozes!!!
