Sarge is sick on and off......

Sarge was sick (throwing up) for about 4 days almost 3 weeks ago. Since then he has done the same thing for a day and then fine for about 4 days and then again he throws up for a day and then fine etc.

He also went from scarfing his food down in seconds to taking forever and breaking it into tiny pieces etc.

Sometimes when he goes to throw up you can tell because he will do this painful fast circle and hunch down kinda let out a wail and then violently throws up all his food.

It's always 4-6 hours after he eats and not immediately.

I switched to Canidae around Jan. 20th and we didn't have any problems before that which made me think it was the food, but now that it keeps happening on and off it has to be something else. He's schedule to go to the vet next week, but just wondering if anybody had any ideas ?!

ETA : I just went to feed Sarge his 2nd feeding today and put the bowl down for him and he just sat and looked at it and walked away (he's done this a few times now). I then thought OK maybe it's the food that he knows makes him sick so I gave him some iams puppy that the vet had in our puppy bag. Yes I know - not my choice, but wanted to see what happened and he immediately ate it just fine !

So maybe it is the food that he can't handle and he knows that ??!! hhmmmm.........

Kinda weird! Gauge did the same thing off and on only in the morning for first feeding. Ended up having a gastroplexy at the age of 10 months. Vet pinned it down to bloating or gas build up decided to tack his stomach down. Just incase of stomach torsion. He still has issues but we are walking while feeding his first meal in the morning. I believe its a gas build up because he burps up his kibble when he walks and than he is fine the rest off the day.( when they did the operation vets said he had no stomach muscles left because it happened so many times)

He might not like the taste of the Canidae..what about a different flavor?

Well the Imas that he had for dinner came back up about 4AM too.......

It's just weird ! It's never right after he eats - always many hours (usually)

He goes in on Tues., but I wish I could figure something out because he keeps loosing weight and all of his little ribs are showing now ! :(

How is Sarge doing? I have been reading your thread. My Betty started the same way. The vet called it delayed stomach emptying and put her on metoclopramide ( from what I understood to help her "gut" move better) and Pepcid AC. She would still throw up her food in the wee hours of the morning (not fun) and after ruling out Addison's Disease and Giradia, I asked for a referral to the U of M. Betty was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) through an endoscopy with biopsies. Hopefully, that isn't the case with Sarge, but if he continues to throw up and loses weight, make sure you stay on top of your vet for either a cause or a referral. Please keep us posted...

PS Betty didn't throw up every night. She would sometimes go for a week without throwing up and then would start again every other night or so. This went on for 2 months before she was diagnosed.

Thanks - Sarge hasn't thrown up since 4 this morning, but just waiting.........

I have him off the Canidae just to see, but I'm sure it's something internally :(

I'll keep updating We are going out of town this weekend and we have a wonderful lady taking both of our boys and I just feel awful that she might have to clean up a mess. She has a boxer herself and is SO excited, but I hope all goes OK for her !

Ok I take that back - about 11ish last night he threw up again - poor baby :( :(

And this morning he took a couple bites and then tipped over his dish, sat and looked at it and walked away !

Any suggestions on what to feed the little guy until I get something figured out ?

Canned food maybe ? I do have some Natural Balance in the cupboard. Both fish and sweet potato and beef formula. Maybe not the best but wondering if it's will be ok!?

Maybe he's not eating because his tummy hurts? Betty would often do this and would curl up in a ball when she slept instead of flat out like she usually did. Also, she had this pathetic look in her eyes like "mom...I don't feel good". The vet in town had put Betty on canned science diet i/d..i know...bad...She seemed to tolerate that a little better, but still threw up. It all sounds so familiar...the not eating well, and especially the late night, early morning vomiting. Have you had him to the vet's yet? I am now transitioning Betty over to Nature Variety's venison raw food. It's too soon to tell how that will work. The word "frustrating" is an understatement when you are trying to figure out why this is happening to your baby! Good luck and be sure to let me know what you find out.

BTW...you asked about the Natural Balance? I think that would be ok. From what I have read and researched, try and find a food with no grain and a unique protein source. Either the duck or fish would be good and sweet potatoes are a good source of carbs. I would give him just a bit mixed in with his other food to start, and I feed Betty small meals throughout the day.
