Hi all! Just wanted to share my experience of salamander "hunting" that I went on today! It sounds very dorky and/or geeky, and in many ways it is, but it was lots of fun! A group of people(in herpetology club at school), including me, went to a local park today to go searching for salamanders(our main focus), frogs, or just about any creature we could find. We went on a few trails in the park and probably rolled every log we could to find salamanders. We found a swamp like area, where one of the guys went down into - up to his chest - and it was about 50 degrees outside! The whole while we hadn't found anything but a somewhat rare frog for this time of the year(my friend found it). Leaving the swamp, I was off to the side away from the others(who were all spread out), I rolled a log, and found the first salamander of the day! It was a white spotted slimy salamander.. very cool looking. My teacher(group leader) took some pics of the salamander and the frog(mentioned above). In the two and a half hours we were out searching, we found four salamanders, three frogs, and a bunch of tadpoles. If you're interested in seeing a few of the photos that were taken, you can go to http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/luvmy_bxr_paisley/album?.dir=/fe08 The photos are very good resolution.. all credit for them go to my teacher! Hope I haven't bored you too much! It was "funner" than it sounds..hehe
