Well, yesterday 4 Canadian RCMP officers were shot and killed while raiding a grow op. The suspect then killed himself. Apparently the property they were on--it was like farm property with a big shed to store tractors etc-- was boobie trapped all over. Once they got into the shed the suspect started shotting and killed 4 of the 6 officers present--2 were able to shield themselves. The killer's dad described him as "the devil" and his friends said he was a freak. Lots of the neighbours were afraid of him and he had it in for the RCMP. He apparenlty has shot at trespassers on his property before.

The sad thing is one of the officers was only a Mountie for 2 weeks before this happened to him.

The flags here in Ottawa are at half mass as Im sure they are around Canada.

I was so mad when I heard it this morning, its really a sad day for those families who lost a loved one.
I just heard on the news that the gunman was an agressive man.

How sensless was this whole thing!!! I have to wonder if this idiot could have been taken down a lot sooner is he was, as his father put it, such a "freak"? It was very unfortunate that a rookie of only 2 weeks was sent into such a dangerous situation, but no matter how you look at it, any situation law enforcement faces is potentially dangerous.
A very sad time indeed for the families of the slain mounties...my prayers are with them.

Here in Alberta, we are all in shock over this situation. It hit us all way to close to home. Please say a prayer for the families of those officers killed, and an extra prayer for all law enforcement and emergency services personnell everywhere. They put their lives on the line for the rest of us every day.

It is a very sad thing when a law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty. Makes you realise it's more than just a job :(

Question: What's a "grow op"? Something to do with growing an illegal substance perhaps?

As mentioned it is your job as an officer, and you know what is entailed when you are sworn in. Sounds harsh I know, but police, firefighters, military, race car drivers, even construction workers at elevated heights deal with it every day in their jobs. You just never know what can happen to any of us for that matter---my thoughts and prayers are with the families in their time of grief.

by grow op i mean a warehouse full of marijuana plants and paraphenalia. I was readin the peper today and they had profiles of the four officers. One is engaged to be married, one was an expectant dad. One was in a terrible morotcycle crach a few years ago and went to extensive rehab so he could become a police officer.
They were all between the ages of 25-34
