matt i am so sorry for the loss of those puppies. As i have had a litter where two puppies suffered as some of yours did i know that those puppies faces will stay with you forever, and will never stop affecting you when you think of them.

But watching the puppies you have and the love and enjoyment you get from them makes the hurt a little less, and brings a smile to your face as they chase each other around, and makes you laugh at their clumsy little feet as they try new things.

May your remaining puppies bath in the love you give all your boxers, and may their future owners know just how special each and every one of them are.

Hi Matt, I know I'm about 2 years late on this thread but I'm new to BW. Your story struggle was such a difficult one and I am so sorry for your loss. I have to ask, how did the four remaining puppies do?

I only hope that there are more dedicated people like you out there. I have great respect for responsible breeders, and actually I'm hoping to one day become a breeder. At this moment I'm not ready in the least bit but I'm gathering up as much information and experience as possible before attempting it.

Bless you and my heart aches for you...I will have to shamely admit that after the first 4 or 5 paragraphs, I could not even finish reading your post....how sad and my hat is off to you for being so caring and diligent in making sure your babies are taken care of....I hope things get better for you...and you were very brave and smart for posting.....every little bit of knowledge helps! That story is so heartwrenching

I am a new mom and was considering breeding my beautiful girl, (not to sell, just to add to the family) and have changed my mind. I can not begin to say how sorry I am for your losses, and hope the remaining 4 have a healthy, fullfilled life with wonderful people. I could'nt imagine keeping it together for so long an ordeal. I would not be prepared for such an emotional roller coaster. I hope some others read this, and as I have, realize that breeding may not be right for them. I know this is a really old thread... but... I was just wondering in everyone's opinion, why did the puppies get kennel cough from their mother? Aren't the bitches pre-screened for all of these things? I thought that the mothers milk had antibodies that protected the puppies from these things. I am a nurse and I understand the pathophysiology involved in all of this, and that sometimes you just can't anticipate why a baby of any species won't thrive, but I was just curious.

Well kennel cough is to dogs what the common cold is to humans. Extremely easy to catch and so many million different strains that it is impossible to vaccinate against. Sadly, kennel cough can also be fatal to young puppies, and when its newborns - well, you've just read what can result.
