Thought I would share what Tyson thought to be delicious the other day...SOS pads!! Two to be exact. Little bugger stole them outside while my back was turned cleaning the patio furniture. Never in a million years would I have thought that he may try to eat these. I was wrong! He swallowed them whole. The only evidence - a tiny speck of blue soap on one tooth way in the back of his mouth.

After an x-ray to confirm his strange craving for steel wool, the vet did not recommend letting him pass them. I asked about making them come back up however the vet did not recommend this either (they may get stuck or cause damage coming up even though they obviously went down just fine :) ).

Needless to say the only sure thing to get them out with the least chance of injuring him was surgery which was not cheap at all smashicon . Good thing he's cute!!

Why do dogs eat the things they eat??!!

Poor baby, good luck with the surgery. My hubby's dog when we were going together would get beer/pop cans and eat the tops (the whole tops) of them. He chewed them up and they passed on through without problem. SuzyQ has chewed up and eaten parts of 5 remote controls and 2 pairs of glasses (this sent my friends dog to surgery also). But old iron gut has either gotten rid of them or they are there to stay. Another friends dog ate part of their patio furniture cushions and had to operated on -all that foam rubber. They are way worse than kids at times, and their doctors are even more expensive I think.

My old boxer lady's favorite thing was sos pads. She would always steal them too. I guess she passed them with no problems. I wouldn't want to have to pay for a surgery like that either. That is why I now have vet insurance. You never know what these boxers get into.

I am so sorry, for him and for you having to pay for the surgery :( Hurricane does this too... he is an angel in that he never chewed anything up, not once, housebreaking was a breeze, smart as a whip, but every few months he finds something to swallow that he really, really shouldn't. I feel your pain!!! His latest escapade involved semi-sweet chocolate morsels... steel wool sounds much less appetizing but there is no accounting for doggie taste! Hope your baby gets to feeling better soon...

Been there, done that. Lol
When abbie was a puppy, she ate a SOS pad. I called the vet and he said not to worry, the soap may give her the runs but everything would pass. I was worried about the steel wool and all he was worried about was the soap on it, go figure. She didn't get diarrhea or anything.
Glad to hear your pup is ok though. Surgery can be hard on the wallet but so worth it in the end.

Thanks for your concern. This actually happened back in July ( his birthday in fact :) ). All went well and he is totally healed up now. We keep telling him that this was his one get out of jail free card!
