Zach and I live by a hiking trail and that is where we go for our walks. On occasion we have run into a man walking a fairly large dog - probably close to 90lbs - and this dog is NOT friendly. Zach and I usually step off the trail into the bushes to let this man pass since it is hard for him to control the dog.
Well last night as I started down the trail I saw the man and his dog coming in my direction, so I turned around and went back to the entrance to give him enough room to pass. This guy causally walks by as his dog is lunging at Zach, and Zach is totally flipping out, and he does NOTHING to control his dog. So I said to him "Can you please control your dog". This idiot turns around and says "F**K you, b*tch!" I stood there with my mouth hanging open in total shock. Then I let him have it...smashicon
He says "Its not my dog" like that should excuse him of being courteous?? I yelled back at him  "Well, maybe you shouldn't be walking him if you can't control him". And to that, he repeated his first statement.
I am just totally dumbfounded! I'm just worried about when I run into him again. An idiot like that really scares me, I can see him letting go of that dog.....

Now my mouth is hanging open what a complete %&$#@$# he is. Is there any way you can find out who the dog belongs to and maybe talk to them? I am sure they are not any better, letting someone like that walk their dog. Anyways it may be woth a try.

What an a-hole! I'm sorry you and your pooch was subjected to such adolescent behavior smashicon. Normally I wouldn't consider the following, but since you run into each other on occasion, you might consider carrying some *mace* to protect both of you against man and animal... esp. since he's totally irresponsible and has no intentions on doing anything about it.

Our neighborhood postman LOVES Diego and the neighborhood happens to have a few should-be-euthanized dogs and he gave me the kind of mace the post office uses. Frankly, I haven't brought it with us on walks but probably will once it starts getting dark outside at an earlier hour.

Boy I sure do feel for you and Zach -- esp since the gun laws with concealments are going through BE CAREFUL!!! -- Mace maybe a good idea -- I'm sure the animals would think twice -- also you might want to think about calling animal control and ask them to check this guy out if its not his dog -- maybe something illegal is going on -- like a fighting dog ring? I have heard that in CA where my friend lives the police dept. are finding out that some people are more than stupid -- they will do anything for a profit and selling aggresive animals is a big thing in the cities-- I know my husband used to be a officer-- it makes us so mad and another iddiot gets away with actting rude. There should be a law againist people and thier rudeness!!!!!

There was an earlier thread regarding the use of mace and some say that it only makes the dog more aggressive towards you :( I am not sure how true this statement is but in my opinion I would atleast carry it to protect you from the man! It's a sad world we live in these days and the fact that we must use such precaution sickens me. I hope it all works out! This dog may not be harmful, he may just not be well trained or he may not behave for this man because he isn't his master...nonetheless, this man's behavior was uncalled for!

Some people just suck! Not to long ago I had a guy walking a smaller dog OFF LEASH tell me to control my dog when HIS dog came over to say hello. Gibson was just happy and wanted to play with the other dog (Gibson was on his leash). They guy spanked his dog and told him he was bad well I told the guy to "F*** Off, You don't deserve to have a dog!!!" It might not have been the right thing to do but it was better that knocking his block off!!!

At this point in my life, I should not be surprised by the crass, idiot nature of some people, BUT I STILL AM!

I am sorry you had to encounter such a cretin with an obvious complex about his manhood(or lack there of). I agree with the post that recommended calling animal control. Let them know the aggressive nature of the guy and his dog. I just moved back to Arizona from the Bay area, and with the incident of the woman being mauled by the Presarios, everyone there is very sensitive to any dog that looks aggresive. There, they would have camped out in wait for that jerk.

If that doesn't solve the problem, maybe you could walk with several other people and at least have some back up for the next time you encounter this person with so little education that he has to resort to cursing to express himself. I almost pity him for his ignorance. I haev every faith that people like that get what they deserve. Who knows, maybe the dog will turn on him :D

With this man's aggressive attitude it's no wonder the dog felt it should be on attack mode. I am sorry I have no advice to add, but you've been given some good ideas already. I just wanted to add that I understand your concern and just to say a motherly "BE CAREFUL".
