Routine for leaving your Boxer home alone....

Hi,

We've given up on his destructive behaviour and have bought a crate at the weekend - all going well so far!

I was just wondering, for those of you that don't crate, what do you have to do before you leave the house?

My routine was as follows:

Lock all doors
Lock all windows
Take everything out of low cupboards (he can open them)
Take 3 draws out and put them in another room that he's not allowed in (again, he can open)
Make sure nothing in sink (he can get it out)
Nothing on kitchen surfaces
Table folded away
Table pushed infront of fish tank so he cant get to it
Stereo removed from conservatory

I am so glad we've decided to crate!!!! Just wondered how many of you out there have the same problems!

Gosh,sounds like a crate is the answer for you. All I have to do for Chancey is put a blanket over my bed pillows so she doesn't drool on them and give her a treat before I walk out the door. My angel Kiddo was a different story. She never did get over her seperation anxiety and preferred to stay outside in the kennel whenever I was not home. I would come home to all sorts of destruction and poop when she had to stay inside alone.

Nothing Well, except for locking the doors and closing windows, of course, but that's not because of Henri.

I do usually leave a radio turned on for him though.

LOL - yes, I am fortunate - he is a very easy dog

Have to admit, Cuddles and Toots are pretty good too. Just make sure no shoes are on the floor, and hide the mouse and mouse pad!

I just have to move the dish cloth from the side of the sink, they seem to like taking that and we find it on the floor when we get back (un chewed though) I also give them a treat before I go and one when I get back. They get shut in the kitchen diner.
We're quite lucky that my retired mum lives with us so they're not really on their own much unless mum goes into town shopping etc.

My mum is however going away for a week in October as she does every year. Last year when she went away we had Lola and our other dog (RIP) and they were fine. I am a little concerened as how Zebedee will be though.
Last year I walked them both before I went to work longer than normal (well Lola anyway, poor Tups was an old timer) and I think they slept for most of the time I was gone (6 hours). This year my neighbour is going to pop in to let them out.

I only have to make sure there is no food anywhere in site and pick up any and all shoes!

I have to say Nothing as well, just make sure the doors are locked, Clio's never torn up the house or gotten into drawers or the cupboards. Only thing i do is get on my knees and say "ok daddy is leaving for work, give me a hug" and she'll put her front paws on my shoulders and give me a few kisses then she goes back down the hallway to the warm bed i just left.

i do the exact same thing, nothing, chloe is a very good girl(knock wood) she has never destroyed anything other then a toy.
