Routine for leaving your Boxer home alone....

We haven't crated Chaos since he was 4 months old and I have to say that he has been wonderful. We just make sure that there aren't any magazines sitting on the coffee table...that's it. When Chaos was 16 months old my father-in-law passed away and we had to be gone for 9 hours at one time... and Chaos was great! No accidents...hadn't chewed anything or gotten into anything. Boy did we really make over him that day!

It's not that I don't trust ABBY, but I always pick up and put things out of her reach. These are things that I might want keep and use later. I securely close all of the necessary doors to the rooms that I don't want to look like a bomb had exploded in them. And, I make sure that I've put the trash can into one of the rooms that I just mentioned. Like I said, it's not that I don't trust her, it's that I don't want to tempt her.

Well at lunch time, he was fine. We got a new couch this weekend and we're trying to break them of getting on it. I put cushions from the old couch to defer them from jumping up. Well Bacon knocked one down just to get up on the end.

When Daddy got home after work was a different story! Daddy said that he ripped the cushion opened and pulled out all the fuzz!! Too bad my brother will be short one cushion from the old couch. Bacon does well at night, but only because he's sleeping.

Oh, and daddy couldn't find Maggie at first. She was hiding in Bacon's crate WITH the door shut! It's like she locked herself in there to show she didn't do it. (she's a rescue dog and gets timid when she knows somethings wrong)

So needless to say, he's back in the crate. We'll try little by little to break him of his destructive habit. I would like to have a home when I come home from work.

Rocky gets crated, but here is our routine....

After eating breakfast and cuddling together...

-I make my cup of coffee for the road,
-Rocky and I go outside so he can potty,
-Come inside and gather his kong, football, and other toy (if I can find them) and put them in the corner of his crate,
-Put my lunch and coffee by the front door,
-Tell Rocky "go in your house" and he walks right into the crate
-Shut off the TV and gather my things
-Then I have to tell him like 20 times..."Be a good boy. Mommy loves you."
-Then I can leave.

kitchen only with baby gate

In the morning access to my bed room and kitchen only - he will sleep until I come home for lunch. (my room clear of everything except bed and dressers)

Afternoons as follows
Counters clear of everything
doors and windows locked
Water plentyful
blankets folded and stacked into a bed - he will destroy stuffed beds
floors clear of everything else
baby gate separating kitchen from rest of house.

when I come home for lunch we play with all his toys to give him some excitement time in the middle of the day...then he eats lunch, potty and back to resting.

I'm soooo excited

3 days in a row for all more than 4 hours and Mercedes was fine in the house. I still worry because everytime I snuck up on her and she was by the door waiting. She did move one of her toys so I know she wasn't laying there the whole time but probably the majority. The only damage after all this was one of my baseball hats. I just found it 2 mins ago soaked in saliva but atleast it wasn't chewed or peed on.

My routine when I left was nothing. I made sure she had 2 toys out left TV on and walked out the door (and I took her on a mile walk 15 min before I left)

We use to have to hide the trash can in the bathroom and move anything out of their reach. However, they are behaving nicely now(knock on wood)
When I leave I:
-put their toys on their bed
-turn on the radio
-make sure they have water
-give them a treat
-make sure the hall light is on for them
-lock all doors and window (for mommy's peace of mind)
-give them each a hug&kiss then tell them be good boys, mommy loves you

DH thinks I am crazy!! I think they feel better and that is why they are behaving so well now
