Romeo's penis is swollen...

The head of his penis is swollen. Not only is it awful to look at, but when it finally drains it's like an upside-down fire hydrant. It took me a week to clean my floors last time this happened... Any advice???

You need to get him to a vet. It sounds as though it is some sort of infection, and would need antibiotics to clear things up. Is he able to pee at all?

yes, he is able to pee, and this has happened before. It almost seems like it's some type of blue balls (he's not neutered). And as soon as he somehow relieves himself, that's when everything goes back to normal. But cleaning up the mess is hell, unless his baby brother, Juan Diablo (black pug), gets to the scene first. He's like an insatiable mop head, lapping (BLAH!) at Romeos mess.

Um, firstly you should get him to vet immediately, secondly you should really fix this dog. It sure doesn't seem fair to the dog for him to have to go through this. Unless he is a top show dog and has had all of the proper health teting to be bred he really should be neutered for his sake. It is not fair to the dog for him to have to suffer for this problem. This is NOT normal for intact dogs. He needs to be seen and taken care of by a vet right away. And ewww, really too much info on the last part. I don't think we need to know how it's cleaned up.

Slow your roll there, Vela, Romeo's a Jaquet show dog, and having him neutered really isn't an option I want to explore. As far as my detailed description of the "cleaning" well, I'm all about the landscape of a story. My reason for including the nasty part of the story is to relay the message that I don't think it's an infection. Sure, it could've been worded better: Juan Diablo likes the way this stuff tastes! Happy?

You don't think it's an infection, but what does your vet have to say? No diagnosis or known cause?

I'll find out what the vet has to say tomorrow. The problem has gone away again for the time being, but I'll see what the vet has to say and will post his answer in case any others have similar problems. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Yes please let us know what the vets thinks the problem is, hopefully it's nothing serious and they are able to tell you what it is. Since he is a show dog then hopefully they can fix it without neutering. Good luck with that.

As for the rest of it, it's not a matter of being happy, it's nothing I wanted to know about in any kind of wording, but to each their own. If you like talking about it I guess that is your perogative.

Fair enough. Next time I'll try to be less creative in my descriptions, and will attempt to get my point across in a manner that won't offend the pure of heart. The bottom line is: I was worried about my boxer and I simply wanted to know if any others had had this problem, Jaquet, or not.
