My husband has these weekly poker parties and they take place at various homes. This past Saturday the 1st was his turn so he had about 8 friends over. I have known most of these guys for quite some time, but there were two I had not met before. I usually say Hi and disappear to my computer or bedroom with Mia and Lola Kitty who are not very sociable. Rocky of course loves to be the center of attention and wiggles for all the guys.

To make a long story short I heard laughter and then a cat crying...then came Rocky's bark followed by a growl (I had never heard him do this before) and then shouting. When I ran over I saw one of the guys holding his hand and it was bleeding. My husband Eddie was red faced and hold Rocky back who was very upset and still barking like mad and his friend whom I have known for years was holding my new cat Coco. Apparently "genius" decided it would be funny to spin Coco around on the floor and make her very dizzy to see her stumble off (he does this with his cat!). Rocky thinks Coco is HIS pet...when she cried out not liking being held to the floor and spun Rocky attacked. His hand required 6 stitches. The incident was reported though I have yet to be contacted by anyone, I am not sure what will happen. This man was upset, but did admit it was his fault. He never expected Rocky to react like that. Neither did I, though I must admit I am not angry at all with my pup. My kids were in their rooms asleep and are not aware of what happened...I don't want my home insurance to go up...I don't even know at this point if this man expects for us to pay his ER bill. Rocky is walking around like normal, Coco seems to be a little strange. She has taken to hiding on the top of the cat post tower. AAAAHHHHH...this is not the way I wanted 2005 to start!

 It sounds like it was totally that guy's fault! I hope he has enough sense not to send you any bills... that's what you get when you mess with animals! If Rocky hadn't bit him, the cat might have scratched him and would he expect you to pay for his ER bills then??? Totally idiotic behaviour (although I know all about poker night and expect nothing better! what IS it about the male pack mentality???) Anyway, I hope everything works out fine. I can guarantee you one thing, no one is EVER going to touch Coco again!

PS. I think it's really cute that Rocky thinks she's his cat :) Kisses to them both...

That was not a very nice or smart thing for that man to do to Coco, and it looks like Rocky was just trying to protect her....poor babies. Sorry you had such an upsetting beginning to your new year. Hope Coco gets over her trauma, and that nothing more comes from this incident. And give Rocky a big hug - he was only taking of his little fur-sister.

I can't believe that guy. No offense, but it was not rocky's fault. That guy should have known how dogs behave in a pack manner when they feel threatened or something triggers them. I would think it is a good sign that perhaps Rocky sensed something about this guy. Bummer that he got bit, but he should have known you don't play around like that with dogs you JUST met.

I hope it works out for you:)

*spelling errors* EDIT

I have to agree with everyone else...it was not Rocky's fault! He felt as is if were protecting part of his family, even if it was of the feline variety! What did hubby say about the incident? I just hope no troubles comes of it for you. And I feel bad for the guys cat...getting spun around on the floor! Geesh!

I can't believe this guy. Your dog was only protecting a member of his family. If it would have been a child being played with too roughly then I would expect no less. Just because it is a cat doesn't change the view from the dogs eyes. He felt that a member of his family was in danger and went into protection mode.
I am sorry that this man suffered injuries, but maybe that will wake him up and help him to understand that what he was doing was wrong.
I hope that nothing more comes of it. I would have to think about wether or not to offer up the money for the ER charges. Thats a tough one. He wouldn't have gotten bit if he didn't do what he did, so the procession of events was his fault but I wouldn't want to get sued either.
Good-Luck!

I see it as animal abuse by the "genius" to the poor cat, Coco. Rocky was just trying to protect his family!

Rocky was doing his job and poor Coco is probably tramautized by the whole thing.

I wouldn't offer any money for his ER bill...he brought it on himself by abusing Coco.

Dora,

I am so sorry that your year has started off like this. I can't imagine any charges being filed if this person admitted it was his fault. Did other people hear him state this?

It definately was not Rocky's fault - he was defending his family! Please keep us updated and know that we are thinking about you.

Yay for the boys at their poker party... :( What an idiot. Isn't that animal abuse to do that to the cat? That's a form of torture, in my mind. Poor dog, was just trying to protect his friend from this juvenile cr*phead. Frankly, a well-placed cat bite and deeply raked scratches would have also been a just reward, IMO
