My 8.5 week old boy, Riley, came home this past Friday! He's doing well and getting adjusted little by little to his new home. He apparently likes toes and stinky sneakers...will be posting the pics to prove it...haha. Poor guy was so tuckered out from his first day home he fell asleep head first into my roommates gym sneaks...bleh!!!

Anyone have experience with heart murmurs? I took him for his first check up and the vet said he had one, but that often they grow out of them. Have already reported it to the breeder so she knows and can make a responsible decision about breeding her dog in the future.

I welcome any advice on helping puppy be comfortable at night as he's being very vocal about his displeasure of not being with siblings.

Hope everyone is well!

Congratulations on your new addition. No advice on the murmur, but I'm sure others will have some helpful info for you.
If he sleeps in a crate at night, try putting one of your recently worn t-shirts in the crate with him to help comfort him.
Looking forward to pics. :)

Congrats!!!! i have always heard to put a radio on near the puppy so it wont be silent if he is in a crate or sperate room. The only way my Joey would have it was to snuggle right up with us in bed at night! He is now a year old and still snuggles right in between us, now I wouldnt have it anyother way.

When we brought our puppies home we put them right by me on my side of the bed in their crate. That way they could hear me and I could reach down and let them know I was there if they started crying. Congrats on your new puppy!

He is very cute, already growing so fast! We used to keep Minxie's crate in the bedroom with us and that seemed to help her. If she would whine I just would just say, hush it's okay. Then she would be assured I was still there and go back to sleep.

Welcome home, Riley!
He's a cutie-pie! We gave up on the night crating a couple of dogs ago. They're in bed with us unless they prefer the dog bed, sofa, floor, etc. (which they seem to do more in the summer).

Oh so cute, can I have him? lovicon ? I love the one in the shoe. As far as the crying at night, I think that this just has to work itself out over time. We started out just staying up with Cody on the sofa, then we just moved the crate into the bedroom right next to the bed, he settled down about 1 1/2 weeks after coming home. Good luck with that cutie pie.

Absolutely gorgeous! I LOVE the pic with the little face in the sneaker  He seems really comfortable but man, I can't help but imagine how it smells in there ;) Thank you for the pics, Riley is too cute for words lovicon

I am a new boxer owner so I am not real familiar with boxers but I do know a little something about murmurs and boxers because when we first got Fremont he was diagnosed with a heart murmur. It was a 2 and that meant it was very mild, 1 being the hardest to hear and I believe 6 is the highest and you can actually see those. Do you know what level he said your puppy had? I was totally heart broken and had no idea what to do because they said there is a possibility of them growing out of it but that boxers are a breed that have heart conditions so they did not want to give me any false hopes. I called the breeder and they returned ½ my money to help cover the expenses that I would be faced with. My vet told me I could take him up to K-State and have them do a sonogram at the vet school there and if need be there are some minor procedures that can be done to patch it. My vet said we would go this route if when I brought him back at 5 months he could still hear it. Well by the time I took him for his last set of shots it was gone! I about hugged the vet!
I did lot’s of research on the internet and that really helped so I would recommend you try that out. Even if they don’t outgrow them they can still live, you just have to limit their exercise and things like that.
I know how you are feeling, just hang in there and pray that he outgrows it.
