Riding in the Car Problem

When Linus was a puppy he would have to be on your lap while riding in the car. Well now, he's just too big and is determined to sit on your lap while your driving and it's actually kind of dangerous. There have been a few times where he has climbed over and I could not see the road. I try to make him sit and stay in the passengers seat, but if the car ride is an hour. he will try to sit on my lap for an hour- it's exhausting. What can I do? Seat belt him in? I just don't see that going well.

I had the same issue with my puppy. I bought this dog car seat cover that covers my entire back seat and has a hammock-like (I hope I'm explaining this well) part that attaches to the headrests of the front seat to prevent her from getting into the front seat. She took to that in no time! She never once tried to climb over. She will pace for a little bit while wining, but after just a little while she'll lay down calmly for the ride.

Good luck!

car harness + seat belt. He might whine the first couple of times.. just ignore him.. i am sure he will soon enjoy his own space at the back ;)

I dont bring Roge in my car as I dont like to turn up at work covered in dog hairs my BH has a van with a cage in the back, so we use that, however my parents have the cover that you have and it works very well for them,

A harness attached to a seatbelt in the back seat is a good idea. My girl is great in the backseat, but still a nightmare in the front seat trying to get over towards my lap...

Zoe also thinks I'm a jungle-gym when riding in the car. Going to be investing in a harness for car-riding.

We use car harness and in the beginning to give her good associations with the car harness ; I would give her a frozen kong with her food & apples & stuff in it to make it a pleasant experience. This did make it messy in back seat but I have a backseat cover to protect the leather seats. It worked like a charm.

A harness and seat belt are a must. Accidents happen every day and your puppy could get killed or injured plus a flying dog can cause damage to the passengers/driver as well. Yes, your puppy might whine for a while but he will get used to it :)
Djheitz recently posted this sad story: AABR Boxer A car harness and seat belt doesn't cost much and should be available in most pet stores.

Car Harness for sure. It buckles into the seatbelt and then she can't go anywhere. they have enough room to turn around and lay down and that's it. works great for my Mia as she is a wiggle worm too. Plus she's so big that she doesn't have good balance in the car. the harness keeps her in one place and from ramming into the back seat or dash! good luck.
