Another suggestion....do you ever put Ribby in "clothes"? As skinny as my girl is getting & with the cold weather finally setting in, she is always freezing so I try to keep a shirt on her at all times. Plus, if she is shivering & cold, she won't eat! Just a thought. Good luck!

My Indy was very picky and the pill pockets were a salvation. He was taking 8 to 10 pills a day and he would take them in the pockets no problem. He also took Zantac twice a day. There is also nausea meds that he took with the prednisone and Palladia - Reglan. Maybe they will help.

Our Ribby is on all the same meds - Pepcid too. She just will not eat. Now she wants to play with me and her tire but is just too weak and depressed. Heart says play but body is letting her down. I stopped forcing food into her mouth last night. I had been doing it partially in the hopes that her meeds would kick in. She was a trooper about it but certainly didn't enjoy it. We're scheduled to take Ribby to her vet tonight. She's telling us she's ready to go. We're not ready for her to leave but it's the least we can do for her - she's brought us nothing but exactly 9 years & 7 months of joy & pleasure!

I agree with you! If Romie enjoys eating it, let her have it! You're making her days the happiest they can be. I'm sure it makes her feel better & even more special!

I am so sorry that Ribby is so ill. I had hoped and prayed that the new meds would work for you. I'll be thinking of you and your wife this eveing as you go to the vet. My heart is breaking as I know the pain and heartache that is ahead. Take comfort in the great care you gave her! She lived a wonderful and loved life. Its been almost two months now since I lost my girl. I knew eventually I would have to travel that journey, however I never thought it would be so hard. Sending love and prayers as you go through this difficult time.

Cancelled the vet for t'night! Ribby played laser & piggy-in-the-middle this afternoon. Feeding her dog-ensure by syringe & making sure now she doesn't spit up pills. Keeping fingers crossed!

Oh, my heart hurts for you guys.... Can I ask where you get doggie Ensure? I may need it in the coming days.

Both of our veterinarians sell it: CliniCare is the brand each of them carried. Also available online for $5 / can. They're just 8 oz cans and recommended daily feeding for a 40 pound dog is 21 ounces. I got almost 13 ounces into her plus a bit of ice cream, plus a bit of canned dog food. She doesn't like it being forced into her mouth but she does eat / swallow it and so far no bouts of vomiting. (Fingers crossed!) As I said, I am really trying to see if her meds will start working because I now believe she's been spitting a lot of her pills out. We've found several on the floor. She's very sneaky about it! When I give her CliniCare and her pills simultaneously, the liquid seems to wash the pills down better. If she'd eat them, I'd gladly try those pill pockets someone kindly suggested. She just won't eat...

We had a good night! Ribby was out in my motorcycle garage with me while I got prepared one motorcycle for tomorrow's ride after work. Then we watched TV together - Ribby laying with her head in my lap while I tickled her belly just like the good old days! She seemed to really love it! A real gift for both of us! I know her time with us is now measured in days but I'll take what I can get. She still seems interested in just about everything she always was - except for eating that is...

Thanks for the clothing suggestion. We keep our house pretty warm and today it was nearly 80 degrees outside anyway. But, we'll keep an eye on her body temperature and get her wrapped up if she seems cold.

My ride tomorrow will be to look at a 5 week old female fawn (mahogany) and white boxer pup about 65 miles away. Her face is almost all white with white extending up between her eyes. The rest of her fur almost looks black in the cell phone photo. Thinking it will be nice that she doesn't look so much like Ribby... The owners have both parents so I'll see what kind of demeanor they have... The same friend who alerted us to Ribby's availability 9 1/2 years ago called and told us of this pup. We stopped in to see him and his two boxers - ages 8 and 11. Both are doing well but look so much older than our Ribby. She looks probably 3 years younger than she really is.
