Repairman Made Me Sick!

This morning a repairman was here to fix my stove. He and his wife work as partners, so his wife was sitting at my table and we were chit chatting about dogs. They both loved Xena and Spirit and couldn't get over how well behaved they were! Anyway, the conversation lead to the over-crowded shelter here in town and the repairman's opinion of how "lack" the OSPCA is. He told me that approx. 1 month ago, he heard crying sounds coming from a dumpster located on his country road. He frantically searched through the dumpster fearing he would find a human baby, but instead found 5 newborn Doberman pups!! He realized that the pups come from a neighbor down the road as they have a female doberman that he suspected was pregnant. The dobie owner confirmed that yes, they were his dogs pups, but the bitch's milk had run dry and so the pups had to be "destroyed", as they were draining the mother! This is where it gets really sick! This man put the pups in a bag and tied the bag to the exhaust of his truck hoping to poison the pups. What he did instead was put them into a deep sleep and thinking that they were dead, he put them in the dumpster!! :mad: So then, repair guy comes along and finds them alive. He called the OSPCA but they were not interested in coming out there anytime soon to investigate. They told him to deliver the pups to the shelter, but that he would have to pay an "abandonment fee" (never heard of this but...). He refused and decided to take care of this himself. This repairman is a farmer and comes from a long line of farmers. He is old school and in his eyes, what he does next he feels is best for the pups. He took the sack of pups and slammed them against a tree several times, killing them!! :mad: Now, his explanation for this was that he felt the pups had suffered enough and needed to be put out of their misery!! I was shocked and sickened! I had an instant dislike for this man and told him and his wife that what they did was just as bad as what the owner did. It was cruel and inhumane. I told him that he was not a qualified vet and had no right to end the lives of those pups, and in my eyes he was just as much a criminal as the owner!! He didn't like my words and told me that people like me and all the "bleeding heart" activists are the reason why the shelters are over crowded and that we expect tax payers to flip the bill on all unwanted animals!! EXCUSE ME...but it's people like the idiot who bred his dobie in the first place that fill the shelters with neglected, abused and unwanted animals!!
Needless to say, he left my house knowing that I'm NOT old school and that I was totally pi$$ed by what he told me. Right now, I just feel sick to my stomach! :(
RIP lil' ones. Such a short time here on earth, but a lifetime of pain that was experienced. I'm so sorry that this has happened to you.

I cannot believe this! That is completely awful!

My dad was telling me one time about a guy that didn't like dogs so everytime a stray dog would come to his property, he would tie the dog to the back of his truck and drag him up the road to a forest and tie them to a tree til they died. I was completely horrified about this!

I don't care how old school this a$$hole is, this is completely unacceptable...and to actually TELL people about it is slightly insane to me...as if this could ever be justified..

I would report this man for animal cruelty. I don't know how you would prove anything because it is his word against yours but it wouldn't hurt to at least call and talk so someone.
That being said, did you allow him to stay in your home?
Stove or no stove, his sorry-A$$ would be out my door so fast his head would be spinning.

Susi, this part of the conversation came up while he was sitting at my table preparing the bill, so the stove was fixed already. He didn't stick around when I started my rant about idiot BYB's and the cruelty HE added to those poor little pups short lives!! As far as proving what he did...I dunno. He did say that he buried the pups on his property so...?
And, I'm not a shallow person, but he gave me the creeps because he reminded me of the guy from the movie "Deliverence"..the one who tied buddy to the tree and told him to "squeal like a pig"!! :eek:
MyJoy, I feel the same way. People like this man simply do not see the inhumane side of this like we do. He tells people he did this because, in his mind, he was a Saviour to those pups for "putting them out of their misery"! Well, things have changed since the days of culling and backyard castrations and so on. There is no acceptable reasons for this sort of Neanderthal mentality!

Ok now just the other day I was on BW being all preachy and telling people to treat others as you would have them treat you but I must admitt this guy would have gotten my shoe firmly planted in his butt as I kicked him out of my home.

Hideous! A lot of crap has been dished out under the guise of "old school." That's just horrible. Poor little ones; I don't understand how people can exhibit such lack of respect for life.

When I was in high school my dog got pregnant by the next door neighbors dog - they did it through the FENCE!!!! Anyway the day the pups where born my mom and stepdad told me he was going to do the samething with the bag and the truck, since they where leaving for Fl. in 2 days and didn't want to have to "deal" with them. I told them to give me 1 day and I would find a home for all of the pups, they agreed but didn't believe that I could. I went to school the next day and spread the word of what they were going to do. It turned out that a girl in one of my classes mom was the Vice President of the SPCA in town. She called her mom and they came and picked up the puppies right after school. My mom and stepdad could not believe it when I they came home and all of the pups where gone! I ended up becoming best friends with the girl in my class and we frequently did events for the SPCA. I just could not imagine someone being able to do this to a LIVING BREATHING animal. I got a job after school and on the weekends so I could pay to have my dog spayed, so this would never happen to her again.
