Hi all...

my quest for a companion continues...

hope you don't mind my asking but what living conditions do you currently have? do you own or rent your home? is it a condo, apartment, duplex, house?

Would a boxer be ok in an apartment? I currently rent a 2 bedroom apt.

We own our home. It is a two bedroom two bathroom with plenty of back yard for our two boxers to play in when they go back there. I would think that an apartment would be fine as long as you take them out often to excercise and play. Good luck on your quest.

We live in a two bedroom two bathroom apt. :D We will be getting a home very soon with a back yard. It wasn't bad at all being in the apt, but we didn't have any place for off leash play and that gets a bit frustrating. I think if you have a dog park near by and can get some good exercise then everything should be OK ;)

that's good to hear also... thanks... I think I will be adopting one about a year old or so, rather than getting a puppy...

I won't have time to potty train him as a pup so I think if its a little older it will make it easier on both of us...

We own a towhouse. It has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, but no yard, except for the front one. I take them to dog parks 2X a week and to the neighborhood park everyday.

I too am an apartment dweller (2bdrm+2bth) and we do just fine. I make sure he gets a 3 mile walk in the morning before I leave and another 3 miler in the evening plus some chasing ball, tug-o-war, etc. When my son gets home from school in the afternoon he will also give him a walk and some romping/boxing around!

Diego happily lives in a rented 1BR apartment! He takes walks in the neighborhood 2x/day, sometimes gets to play off leash with neighborhood buddies and goes to the dog park on weekends. As soon as daylight savings time is here, he'll get to go to the dog park at least 2x during the week, weather permitting ;) - Lisa

I used to rent a nice townhouse that allowed pets, but waited till I bought my own house to get my boxer. Landlords do change their mind and may change the terms of your rental agreement to suddenly not allowing any pets/dogs.
I suggest to wait, if at all possible, till you get your own condo/house to get your new best friend. You don't ever want to be in the situation that you are forced to move or rehome your best friend. better prevent it than deal with it.

i live in a apartment - two bed/two bath. moving to a one bedroom soon (HOPEFULLY). kaiser does fine, we just go out to play alot :)

if the rental agreement says that you can have pets, sounds a bit fishy if the landlord changes this agreement in the middle of your renting period. if s/he changes his mind at the end of the lease, then that can't be helped.
